Haha. Imagine that they fixed the drawing upfront, and then United didnt go trough

if manu had beaten palace would they in a two legged tie with a championship side to reach the final whilst not playing a single premiership side along the way?
You seem surprised they have lucky draws. Please look at their CL groups going back to... Forever!
Yeah why *do* people get surprised by this?

Im pleased tbh....

Recently us playing against Chelsea and City, really big fucking games with plenty of pressure on them.... its just like the good days before it went sour for Rafa...

As LFC we need this big games, they are good for us.

It would have been ideal to have played, say, Cardiff if City had been beaten by Palace but chances are that wouldn't have happened.

I'd rather have City over 2 legs than in a one off game. They may look unbeatable in the league but they have hardly looked that way in Europe. They can be beaten.

And if we do go out to them then in some ways I would rather do so in the semi finals. Losing in a final is horrible.

As someone else in another thread already said, I prefer us playing against City over 2 legs. I think the chances are much higher than in one single match.

A lot of people saying this and I just don't get it, there's no logic to it at all. I would much rather face City in a one-off match where we are up for it (a final) than in two legs where they have far more chance for the likes of Silva, Barotelli, Aguero or Dzeko to make a decisive impression.

Froggy, I completely agree.

Yeah, it makes no sense. 2-legs is always best for the superior team, and I dont think anyone would argue that City are a better team than us at the moment. We raise our game for the good teams though, and we have the advantage by playing away first, so it will be a close affair.

Well it could be argued that the better team is at an advantage in any case anyway but with 2 legs the tie can become slightly more tactical.

If we were confident about scoring at home - am hoping we will be by then! - then in theory we could try to shut them out at their place (we have a solid defence normally so that's not unrealistic) then take them back to Anfield where we should have an advantage anyway.

Seems to me that it offers more chances for Mancini to get it right against us, redeploying his strike force worth hundreds of millions of pounds in different ways until he finds how to break us to smithereens.

That sounds quite negative when reading it back.

Nonsense. It's more likely we'll figure out how to quell the threat from their attacking line. We just need a good result from the first match and then take them back to a rocking Anfield.

Of course the better team is at an advantage, this is why we call them the better team. A texas holdem analogy would be apt I think: One player has Ace King. The other has Jack Ten. They both go allin. In this scenario AK should expect to win 62% of the time. In a single allin though the variance is huge, and the guy holding AK could even lose several times in a row. However, do the allin a hundred times and he should be very close to his expectation, which is 62% of the money in the pot.

The same applies to a football game. Team A may have an edge, but team B can beat them on any given day. But the more times the tie is played the better it is for team A, as they get closer and closer to their expectation.

PS: Of course in the actual tie with Man City the picture is a bit muddied as we have the home advantage in the 2nd leg, and we tend to raise our game etc, so it may not be clear who has the actual edge. But in general, more games will always benefit the better team.

It's more likely that you have a serious BO problem and people talk about you behind your back. That's more likely than any of this.

ha ha

I reckon hard work, discipline and good tactics are more likely than talent to triumph over two matches. That's how we beat better teams in the past over two legs.

They have some class acts that could just do something magical or stunning out of the blue but I think the more time we have to impose a pattern on the tie, the better chance we have.

Yeah, instead of drawing at home against a couple of newly promoted sides.
Ahem. Yes. But we're good away.

I've condensed that for you 😉

Anyone who says they'd rather have City in the semi is insane. Properly insane.
Who you calling insane J.R ?
There's two reasons why I'd rather have city in the semi's.

1. I'd rather lose to them in the semi's than the final.

2. I think we can beat them over two legs especially during the African cup of nations when Yaya isn't available.
Also we play them away in the first leg and I think we can snatch a draw there only to win at home.
