May as well start talking about the next game. I'm not expecting anywhere near a full side to be honest. This cup is clearly worthless to most and, as such, we should use it as an opportunity to blood some more youngsters. With a squad as thin as ours it really is pointless trying to chase progression in this competition.

Jones,
McLaughlin, Carragher, Coates, Robinson
Henderson, Shelvey*, Suso
Downing, Yesil, Assaidi

*Is he suspended for the cup? If so, Sahin.

Good enough for me. Though I'd start Sahin regardless of whether Shelvey can play or not as he needs games.

A mate of mine is still calling it the Rumbleows Cup, so I wouldn't be too worried about yous call it. There's always a bigger plonker.

I think it will be one of the three games he is suspended for.
It is normally a ban on competitive as distinct from league games.

I think I'd be more inclined to play Suso on the wing, Sahin in the middle and Downing on the bench.

Otherwise, I agree. With Kelly out for so long it'd almost be remiss not to give McLaughlin a go although Wisdom might feel a little hard done by.

Agree with Sunny, this is an unwelcome distraction for a threadbare squad. It's all about Norwich away on Saturday.

I don't think it's a distraction at all.

We could do with something positive to build on and a win, regardless of the competition, would be just that.

As for a threadbare squad - it's not that threadbare. Downing, Sahin, Henderson, Coates, Enrique and Assaidi who played a combined 20mins or something at the weekend. As far as Carling Cup teams go, it's not all that bad.

Each to their own. I just think our priority has to be the league and unless we win the thing again which i highly doubt(given our problems) then i won't be too upset if West Brom put us out. Probably change my way of thinking once the match starts but atm i couldn't care less about it.

We've plenty of options in midfield but our squad is lacking serious depth in defence and attack. Of course we can call upon the youngsters but it's hardly ideal.

Our full strength side was beaten by this team. We're defending our title. We need a win and we need some positive news. Our squad is woefully shallow but we need to try to win this.

Have to say, I'm kinda with Gary. League progress (or lack of) has to be our sole concern this season.

Its a great opportunity to get some people up to match fitness and another great opportunity to keep some people at match fitness and a great opportunity for the youngsters to again show the class
