11 games since the League Cup Final. Very little to criticise Mignolet over in that time - certainly no goals to blame on him. 3 clean sheets prior to that game. And against City he had claims on Man of the Match due to 3 or 4 outstanding saves. Over that period I think we could find at least 2 blameable goals for any other Premier keeper. The goal Coutinho scored at Old Trafford, for example. Great goal, but we'd have blamed Mignolet for De Gea's goalkeeping on that goal.

2015, Mignolet had more clean sheets than any other Premier League keeper. Yet everybody wants him replaced! With some justification, as there are several errors to back these opinions. So - bad keeper, or one who thrives on a settled back four? Notice how his mistakes grew when there were a lot of defensive injuries. Klopp has helped to improve our back line. Lovren has a new lease of life. I'd think hard before spending a lot of money replacing Mignolet.

I'm not so forgiving. Mignolet, along with Lovren, Sakho, Skrtel and Moreno, have contributed to too many bad defensive plays over 2 to 3 seasons to be let off so easily for a couple of months' good work.

A lot was due to Rodgers, and lack of attention to defensive work. That is being corrected and players are showing their worth. Perhaps?

He did exactly the same last season and went on a very strong run. Hes still shit and will throw one in eventually.

I think his improvement has councided with Lovren being amazing. Which I reckon he is.
That tackle on the sideline yesterday *swoon*

He looked like he slid for about six yards before getting that tackle in, it was a work of art.

Don't replace him for the sake of replacing him, but if a very good keeper is available, we shouldn't hesitate.

Not good enough.
We invariably go on a decent run at the end of every season, usually when there's nothing left to play for, and historically I think that has saved a few LFC careers that perhaps it shouldn't have.

A very good post which well deserved being repeated. 😉 We should always be in the market for upgrading any position if the right opportunity comes along, but I don't think replacing Mignolet is our top priority.

The thing us it will be soon enough. He has to go. It's complacent (the club not you JJ) to think otherwise, look at how many points DE Gea saves united. That's the standard. Ming ain't anywhere near it over the season. How many games has he salvaged for us? How many have been pure theft? Close to none. Have you ever seen the headline "Ming gets Liverpool three points" or "Ming saves 'pool"?

No me neither.

He lost us the cup final. I dont care how many wonder saves he made, the easy one he didnt make was what cost us

Well, the fact that those headlines haven't appeared doesn't automatically mean it was right that they didn't. I couldn't run down an itemised list now, but he definitely has saved us points here and there as well as cost them.

Nor are there that many De Geas out there, certainly not for anything less than Monopoly money. Let me make myself absolutely clear in case I haven't already: I'm not saying we ought not to replace Mignolet. I am saying though, and I stand by saying, that there are other changes to the squad which need sorting first, namely a better midfield shield in front of the defence (I don't agree with those who nominate Can for that role - he needs more freedom to be at his best) and another attacking option to give us more of a consistent scoring edge (I don't think Benteke's the man to do that if Sturridge's fitness is going to remain dodgy, and we have yet to see how last night's tackle will affect Origi). Replacing Mignolet without first attending to these other changes (a) wouldn't help enough to justify the fee we'd get charged and (b) could dangerously reduce what we can spend on those other replacements, IMHO of course.

I would argue a keeper should save you a lot of points when you are a top club, and relative to the points that get for you, they are undervalued. A good keeper might win you as many games as a good striker, but costs far less. And we know he'll be back in error land soon enough. It's a lock. I also think we need to fill in other positions but that this is also a priority.

Any assessment of his permanent and points saved/gained and lost with him in nets won't auger well. He's not a match winning keeper IMHO. He a a match losing one. And I was a supporter not long ago!

I know what you mean - but its hardly fair. Would you say a striker lost the cup final if he scored 2, but missed an easy chance when the score was 1-1 and the team went on to lose 3-2?
I'm not really arguing strongly in Mignolet's favour, but more in a JJ voice. Don't throw a lot of money at a goalkeeper who might end up being little or no improvement.

Unfortunately for the folks who have chosen that profession, that is the measure you have to live by. Goalkeeper makes a mistake = Goal against = Failure, its very black & white & may seem a harsh measure, but tough shit to them. If you dont want that pressure, dont be a GK.

Its easy to post this shit when he has yet another shit game. The bizarre thing is its takes YET ANOTHER shit game for people to buy into it.

Seriously, worst keeper I have ever seen for us.
