Brannagan vs Exeter. Okay, it's poor opposition but you can still see the kid's got some nice things going for him in terms of fitting into Klopp's plans - pretty tenacious and works hard to close down opponents, good vision and passing ability. Shouldn't be a surprise for those who've had the chance to watch him play for the U19s and U21s previously.
It should be worth noting that with the number of Academy-developed youngsters going out on loan these two seasons, we've kept the likes of Rossiter and Brannagan, and of course Sterling previously, close to us. I don't think any scouts who've watched them play for our U19s and U21s would've passed up on the chance to nab them on loan to improve their squads, so I'd like to think that it was perhaps management's decision to keep the best ones whom they're most confident of making the grade soon close to the first team. Ibe's probably an exception because we'd brought in more experienced lads like Lallana and Markovic (he'd already played 70+ top division games in Serbia and Portugal prior to his arrival) in the summer of last season.
Signed a new contract in October last year, so he's tied down with us till Jun 2018. If he continues to show great promise, we should probably look at extending the contract again later this year or in the earlier part of next year, instead of letting it run into its final year again like in (strangely enough) Rossiter's case.
For those who didn't know, he comes from a family of Man Utd fans and we beat them to him. Makes it all the sweeter. 🙂
