Haven't seen this posted anywhere yet, front page of the Echo today.

Bit of a tired subject to be honest, but suppose we should be talking about this again.
I've got a lot of time for Martin Broughton and what he's saying actually makes economical sense both for us and the Blues. We'd have more money to strengthen the squad, and God knows it needs investment but something just wouldn't feel right ultimately.

The ground wouldn't be called Anfield or even 'New Anfield' cause the Blues would never agree to that, can we still play You'll Never Walk Alone in the derby if it was deemed to be an 'away match'?

Can we afford to be sentimental in this day and age?

It certainly opens a fresh can of worms.

Martin Broughton did an excellent job as chairman and I'll always be grateful to him for that, but in the process he appointed Roy, so he's clearly not infallible.

This would make excellent financial sense for the blueslime but NOT for us. I wouldn't trust them to be able to keep their end up financially, but we couldn't afford to let the stadium slide downhill either. so there's a real risk we'd end up carrying them. F'ck. That.

I've got many issues against having a shared stadium:

Everton will struggle to get finance for their half of the stadium.
We would play on a shit pitch week in, week out.
We would lose a lot of our identity which makes us so famous.

This could be our home for the next 150 years, therefore if we haven't got the cash to fund a new stadium of our own, I would rather we either save up, or redevelop Anfield. I'm prepared to accept that we will struggle to compete in the league whilst either of these options happens, because those who are for a shared stadium, IMO, wish to trade the potential for success in the short-term for a damaged and tinted legacy, and that is something I would never subscribe to.

There's very few topics that get me as riled up as people suggesting we share a stadium with Everton, it's usually cunts like Richard Key's and others who don't like us.
We don't want it, I don't want to hear about how the Milan clubs do it and how it makes financial sense. LONG term it doesnt. It's usually championed by those who haven't a clue about how we feel, or by people just trying to wind us up.
I'll give Broughton a pass this once.

I saw a report a while ago which said the Milan sides won't be doing it for much longer. Appaz the pitch isn't standing up to the constant use and one of them (I forget which) is looking to move back out.

Inter are planning to move out.

Inter are primarily looking to leave the San Siro because - like all other Italian clubs bar Juventus - they rent the San Siro from the local authority, which means they miss out on a lot of key revenues that we take for granted.
