Spurs finished 3rd behind Arsenal and the blue half of Manchester can celebrate having finished 4th. We get finished a lowly 8th but as always above the bitters. If utd win the FA Cup and finish 5th and we win the Europa final, who do you think has done better?

We would have had the better outcome, but they have had a better process.

The league is most reliable indicator of quality and we've finished 3 places behind them, and they were fifth.

They've been shite, and we've been worse.

I don't think either set of fans would be arsed enough to argue the toss about who has done better given the campaigns.

if the league started when Klopp started with us, we would be FORTH. (yes if my Aunt had balls..)

That's for me a better indicator. He's also better against the big clubs in the match ups than Rodgers, and he's better in Europe than Rodgers.

Plus we like coming from behind. He's better at this than B Rodge.

I feel like we were stuck with an up and coming major who couldn't kick on a level. He was decent, but in regression.

With Klopp, the momentum is strong. The results are better. Definitely a major improvement.

We were tenth in the league when Rodgers was sacked in October. We've finished eighth. I wouldn't be showering Klopp or the squad with praise for that.

I would rather have our squad and our manager, but let's not go overboard. They've beaten us twice this year and finished comfortably above us. We've both been largely shite.

Crowing about who's had the best season when you've finished mid-table is a bit pointless IMO. A bit Everton if you know what I mean.

I don't think I am. I'm just pointing out
  1. His record relative to other team's since he took over is top 4 material.
  2. He's better in Europe than the previous guy.
  3. He's better at beating the big teams thus far.

I'm not planning an open top bus parade. I haven't ordered commemorative underpants. There's no DVD coming out.

It's measurable progress. Small, but it is progress. you don't have to be an eejit to appreciate that.

LvG has spent 250 million quid moulding that team of course. Give Klopp a couple of years and let's see where we are.

In 2005 we won Old Big Ears and I don't remember who was higher than us in the league or who even won the damned league that year. Well, actually I do know, it was Chelsea, but we had among the best night Anfield has ever hosted against them and also that Garcia goal. So yeah, I'm sure we kept our celebrations at the minimum at that time, as per allocated bragging rights according to league consistency on a game by game basis.

If we win the Europa league we can boost as much as anyone bar Leicester.

Lose and we should rightly be very quiet.

Granted getting to two cup finals isn't too shabby in his first half season.

Yes, but the problem with this comparison is obvious:

The European Cup (or Champions League) is a far, far more important and prestigious trophy to win, even if we do manage to beat Seville. And we were able to compete in it because we had finished high enough in the league to generate a qualifying place.

The Europa Cup is for also-rans and nearly teams, which is why no big teams really give a fuck about it. In fact NOT playing in it is preferable, because if you are competing for it, you've either been bundled out of the proper European Cup (like Seville) or haven't done well enough in the league to qualify for the proper European Cup (also like Seville).

It's a trophy that the smaller teams like to contest. Seville finished 7th this season in La Liga. Behing Celta Vigo. They finished 5th and 5th before that. They're a decent little team. Nothing special.

We've finished 8th, 2 places lower than last season and our worst finish since 2011/12. Last season's finish and a mediocre start to this led to Rodgers getting sacked. Before that we had the glorious failure of finishing second. The season before that - Rodgers' first - we finished 7th. Before that 8th again, which led to Kenny getting sacked.

We are not a very good side, and appearing in a Europa final against another decent, little club won't change that. What will change that is finishing higher up the table and challengig for the title, and then winning it.

Cups like the Europa are nice, but mean fuck all, especially ones that no big team actually want to win, because winning it means you're in it, which means you've failed.

Fulham under Roy Hodgson got to a Europa league final. Yeah.

We're 8th and we've lost one already. Kenny was sacked for the same - assuming we win one.

We might have finished 8th but Klopp has also taken this squad to 2 cup finals.
That without buying any players or a pre season. I'd say thats more than good enough in his first "season".

We all knew, well most of us, that this season would be like that in the league when we hired a new manager in October.
New ideas, new league and some great results and some horrendous.
It would be all about adjusting and taking in Klopps approach.

If we win on Wednesday I'll celebrate just like Istanbul or Cardiff '06. A throphy is a throphy. Its also a ticket into the CL.

Next year the demands of a better league performance will be there. Obviously.

We also had one of the worst injury records I can remember, and Klopp was really scraping the barrel at times this season. I think he has done really well. The Europa has been special this year through the exhilarating series of fixtures we have had to play in the KO stage of the competition, and consistently against champs league quality teams. It has been wonderful, and to downplay it is to be needlessly negative. Dortmund and Utd really wanted this, and certainly aren't small, pluckily decent clubs. They are giant clubs, and we rolled them over in some absolutely massive games that elevated the competition.

Knocking out Utd, Villareal and Dortmund certainly makes the EL feel more like the Champions league.

Think we've played the most games in Europe this season, Klopp has been the quickest Liverpool manager to reach 50 games and we've never used as many players in the league before, 34.

Its remarkable to say the least.

Spurs had the thier best season in recent history and still finished below one of the worst arsenal teams of recnet years

While it was undeniably amusing to see Spurs being Spurs, I don't think it's fair to say that Arsenal's late surge past them was anything too significant. Spurs were challenging for the title until two weeks ago. Arsenal fell away months earlier. Spurs have still done a lot they can be proud of this season, and both they and Arsenal know it.

Yet they finished with 2 points less then the hopeless AVB managed when he was fired.
Are Spurs that good or has the league been a bit shite?
