Bordeaux vs Liverpool (Europa League) Match Thread

I was rather bemused at how many players didn't actually look at where, or whom, they were passing the ball to. And trust us to find another German who can't hit a long range shot lower than the crossbar. But a point wasn't bad, a few youngsters got a bit of European experience - it was a tolerable effort.

What I heard tonight... Maximum bullshit alert but...

Rodgers now hangs with his bird and her family before the matches at anfield before the games and only gets together with the squad just before the match. Ancelotti has been approached by FSG. The first bit of info from my mate who knows the head steward and The second from my mate who went to school with si someone or other who writes for the independent.

Interesting. Isn't Ancelotti taking a year off though after back surgery?

That fan had a pint in hand. How? Aren't all European games alcohol free, or just in anfield?!
It will be alcohol free beer. They had that in Barca in 2001. Everybody went for it thinking the rules were different. The words alcohol free were very small and in Spanish!

Haha remember that so well. Then again after being on the ale for about 12 hours before the game it took a while to realise.

Yeah loads of us were well caught out by that. 24hrs of bingeing does that to you. We had to be entertained somehow. Dullest game I've ever watched!

Dunno. I've never even considered him as a possibility coz he'd want massive money both for him and for the squad and I can't see fsg being into it

Agree. He doesn't strike me as a Manager that would relish working with a young and upcoming squad of players trying to make their way in the game.

That's all highly plausible, I'd believe almost anything about how clueless Rodgers is at this stage.

And certainly with the Red Sox they always seemed to have their feelers out with good out of work staff

He'd had a few niggles and his Mrs had a kid over the Summer too, he's also been prone to the odd tantrum, so it's not inconceivable that he's been out of "reckoning" for a few reasons. He's better than Lovren anyway, but I've never been overly convinced by either, that said, I thought Gomez and Sakho looked a really promising partnership.

Just watched the highlights. Whoever is asking Rodgers the questions after the game twice mentioned Sakho was immense.

The thing was that Sakho didn't just look good but for the most part he didn't look troubled. Even Lovren at his best for us generally looks like an accident about to happen. Whoever's idea it was to give Toure another contract is lucky to still have a job as well. Not on the pitch that long but managed to bring down one of their players for a deserved yellow card and then jumped into Mignolet (who on the replays seemed to clearly shout) and injure himself. He was a liability last season and I'd like to know what genius thought he would be any better this season.

You have to laugh at some of the comments about Ibe. 19 years old. Fucking hell.
Give the kid a break. He's got massive potential but will obviously have loads of poor games while he's developing.

Of course. But the way some of you have been banging on about him after a few decent games last season you'd think he was the next Messi.

Its hardly worth wasting your breath for. Rodgers would take from that the fact he has been called genius. Then tell his bird about it.

Coutinho disappointed me. He should be bossing the midfield in those circumstances, but he didn't seem to assume responsibility. And he still appears to be addicted to those daft balls into the middle of the area when it's obvious to all but him that there's no space for it. Nice shot that hit the post but a frustratingly sloppy perfomance from our supposed star player.

Dont think anyone has done that tbh. Some might have thought he was a bit further in his development than he is though. Most can agree on that he's fantastic talent and could be a very good player.
Just needs time to develop.

The biggest problem is he's the only real winger we have at the Club thus we'll be needing to use him regularly this season.

We spent another £70m or whatever it was in the summer, and we've one winger who's 19 and is patently not ready to make a positive contribution as it stands now. Ridiculous.

It doesn't help that he's trying to get a yard of space from a deeper position, if we pressed high and used him as a winger, he'd do what he does best, get in behind the fullback and cut balls back for the likes of Benteke to feed off. I thought with Clyne coming in that would give him license to, but he looks below par and if teams close him to the sideline and limit his space, he's not got many answers.
