Bordeaux vs Liverpool (Europa League) Match Thread

Ibe has been tapped up by the big boys. Hence the inevitable drop of form.

Probably Real or Barca. Oh wait...it's Man City because they are the only ones who can afford to pay 50M in this economy. Furthermore, Ibe's best mate is there too.

Oh well.....we live and learn....

When debutant Chirivella replaced Toure (after 30 mins), it meant Liverpool had three 18-year-olds, a 19-year-old, a 20-year-old and a 21-year-old on the pitch in a team with an average age of 21.7. It's difficult to recall a greener Reds team in Continental competition. Indeed, Chirivella and Gomez, who were both born on May 23 1997, became the joint fifth youngest players to appear for the club in Europe.

Interesting. Isn't Ancelotti taking a year off though after back surgery?

That was what got reported earlier this year when rumours of an approach surfaced for the first time, yes. Even so, now would be the right time to make initial contact and start discussions with a view to bringing in him when he's ready. Which I sincerely hope will happen.

Sterling was sent to lie on a beach and impress 'bitches' in Jamaica for a while. Maybe Ibe should be taken out of the firing line for a bit. Or until we get a decent manager in 2016.

Anyone who cannot see that Sakho is our best CB is mental.

Nope. He will be said many. But don't let that stop you twisting it to suit your purpose.

A good few said ( perhaps some tongue in cheek) that we should sell Sterling because we had Ibe to step in anyway. Sterling is on a different level to Ibe currently. Hopefully Ibe can get to Sterling's level within a year or two and kick on from there. I like Ibe. He has plenty of unique skills to help him make it at a high level, noticeable his pace and power.

I think it was a case of some people dramatically underestimating Sterling's talent instead of overestimating Ibe's talent.

Yeah, people were going way overboard about where Ibe is now and underestimating Sterling. There's only a year in age between them, and a year ago Sterling was miles ahead of where Ibe is now.

Obviously that may all flip in a few years, but it's not looking incredibly likely at the minute.

Some were under the opinion that selling Sterling to city was in fact a good idea at the price because he wouldn't improve City a whole lot and it might act as a barrier to prevent them from signing another top class player.

Well, we lost arguably our best player, City now have him, they also purchased Kevin De Bruyne and are unbeaten in the league.

Yup.

That one year where Sterling streaked ahead was mainly because he bloomed earlier and was then fast tracked. Ibe wasn't. Teenagers obviously mature at different speeds however if we look at their basic skill sets and physical attributes you can see Ibe has them in abundance and it's just important he is coached and managed in the right way to help him fulfil that potential. It's impossible to say not looking likely at the moment .. that's exactly what was said about Sterling when he was relegated to the U21 for 6 months.

I was happy with the Sterling deal and I still am.

Of course Sterling is a good player, but for me he is one of those forwards who flatter to deceive. The end-product is so often not there.

Absolutely. Sterling is a really good player but was made to look so much better having the likes of Suarez, Sturridge and Coutinho around him. He will get that same support at City via Silva and Aguero and I've no doubt he'll do well for them, but he's no superstar and I doubt he ever will be.

I think he's already close to being a superstar no? He's 21, he's been to the World cup where he seemed capable of mixing it with anyone. He just joined the potential champions for big money and is an automatic starter for club and country. Plus he can only get better.

Just noticed we're wasting our breath talking about a player who doesn't play for us anymore. Let's drop the Sterling chat Froggy. Fuck him, he's gone.

It seems to me that Ibe has been told to keep the ball, and try and be a more 'intelligent' player.

There's not a lot wrong with that idea, but I get the feeling that that's really taking away from his instincts. He's really a gung-ho player who likes to run at defenders. Trying to make him into a player like Sterling won't help - they're very different players.

The best we can do for Ibe is to just let him play his natural game.

I don't see what the problem is? Everyone's right- I said Ibe has the potential to be better than Sterling, and still has, but there is no getting away from it, so far this season he has been shit

I agree with that. In the United game, Ibe came on as a late substitute but showed up the United defence with some penetrating runs. Up to then, nobody had really been trying to do that.

That's the exact problem , Ibe is a natural and reactive player as soon as you start getting players like that to think about what they are doing they are fucked

Ibe is a one trick pony who tries to beat his man on the outside and charge the byline every time. You take away the outside and force him back inside and he is reduced to nothing. Very easy player to defend.

In fairness to Ibe he was mixing it up when he came back on loan. He showed he was capable of beating his man either on the inside or outside. His performance in the Derby alone highlighted this.

Nah, that's just the result of him being played on the right.

When he plays on the left, where I think he is much more effective, he can mix it up and likes to come inside and shoot.
