*Anyone who saw the game last night care to tell how Saric got along before beeing subbed?
A few nice touches but overall, pretty quiet.

I reckon we'll see more of this during the coming Seasons as we're now actually seeing talent capable of making the grade.

Wenger's youngsters over the years has been of a different class to ours when looked at in a broad perspective at least.

The Gunners Carling Cup-team has fielded the likes of Theo Walcott, Denilson, Clichy, Vela, Diaby, Song, Djorou and Bendtner (who's just signed a new 4-year-contract worth a staggering £14M mind).

The coming Seasons they have got players like Ramsey, Merida and Wilshere coming through their ranks. Pretty much top of the crop once more.

We are not yet on par with Arsenal when it comes to youth-talent but we're getting there and young Pacheco seems very much to be a likely contender for a starting-spot come Leeds. Nemeth would've been to if it wasn't for his loan-spell which I reckon will do him a world of good.

Hmmm *coming though their ranks* ? They were all three pretty much ready to go into a 1st team squad within 6 months of being signed !

Maybe so but they are all still young enough to play in a U18-side and I reckon you'll very much see them beeing fielded in the Carling Cup, hence the comparison to our youngsters.

Sorry KHL - not what I meant. You said "coming through their ranks" and my point was they were bought in and didn't come up via their youth team setup.

Oh, I get it.

They are still the ones we should compare our youngsters with imo. The only difference is that they were already deemed good enough to take part in their firstteam set-up from the start, whereas most of our youngsters are mainly bought for the future.
So when people are complaining about Rafa's will to blood in youngsters in the firstteam and then use Arsenal as comparison they have to take into notion that Arsenal's youth-players has been, and to some extent is, of a better standard/more expensive than ours.

I do reckon that's about to change though. When you take a look at the names in our Reserve-squad from last night you'll have to be optimistic.

Yes I think (hope) you are right about "coming through the ranks" at Melwood !

However maybe you could have given better examples because none of those three were not going to make it - they were all stars before they arrived and in any team outside the top 10 would be starters and as such it's rather unfair to compare them to ours where none of them were bought with the next two seasons in mind !

To be honest they are still young and haven't 'quite' made it already.

Anyways I did mention a few more names earlier in this post - here goes;

The Gunners Carling Cup-team has fielded the likes of Theo Walcott, Denilson, Clichy, Vela, Diaby, Song, Djorou and Bendtner

Pacheco praised

John McMahon has praised Daniel Pacheco.

The reserve team boss was pleased with Pacheco's performance in last night's 3-1 win over Bolton.

"Dani looked fantastic for us," McMahon told the club's official website.

"He was lively, always wanting the ball and caused numerous problems for Bolton all night.

"It was nice to get the win and I thought we deserved the three points. I said I quite liked playing at Prenton Park so let's hope our winning run here continues.

"It wasn't a surprise to see Bruna score our first goal from a free-kick. He practices taking them four hours a day at Melwood and the lad has got quality.

"Jordy's goal was a great example of putting pressure on the defence and being in the right place to get the rewards.

"It was nice for Alex to get on the pitch and score. It was his first game for us so that will give him a lot of confidence.

"There was a lot of pleasing things about our performance and I thought the tempo was good. As staff we still want more from the boys and there are things we can do better so we will keep working."

I was quite impressed with our Hungarian Goulash (goalie), he looked Reina-like in terms of composure and it seems we finally have a good young keeper to cover Pepe.
He has signed a new deal - until 2013. I've never seen him play, is he supposed to be a good prospect? It seems that we still have about 50 keepers in the reserves/u18s.

He got some good reviews on loan to Hereford in League 2 which backed up what Pesam says about him in terms of composure and maturity. The standard of football may be a good deal lower, but the physical challenge is sometimes greater and Gulacsi stood up to it well.

i like this..

very different to Rafa's approach as there seems to be a lot of talk to give the players confidence. Even Brouwer gets a mention for 'being in the right place'... Hopefully some of our lads get a bit more confidence.

Sometimes they look as though they have been reading SCM and have given up hope that they will ever get a chance. 😉

obviously Rafa hasnt provided many with an opportunity... so in my eyes its good to see a bit of positivity around the youth

I always knew Pacheco would make it big time (one day) ahead of Nemeth and the rest.

And I'm still 100% sure about it. There's just something special about the lad that's waiting to explode once he's given his full proper chance on the big stage.

Maybe I'm being harsh, but I can't say that I was hugely impressed with anyone. It was what... the second game of the season... and with all the new players, they're still looking pretty disjointed as a team. I don't think anyone really found their rhythm.

I do agree with the commentators though - Pacheco looks like someone who will swim rather than sink if moved up a level. We should stick him on the bench for the Leeds game and give him a 20-30min run out.
Which is an utter shame!
Why not start him against Leeds?
Concur ... but I somehow doubt we'll see Rafa pull this stunt ...
