Roy Hodgson was an interested spectator as Liverpool Reserves secured a 4-1 friendly success over Celtic on Tuesday afternoon.

The Reds boss took time out his pre-Trabzonspor preparations to cast his eye over the second-string and he would have been more than impressed as they ran out comfortable winners courtesy of goals from Tom Ince, Suso, Victor Palsson and Alex Kacaniklic.

On a rain soaked day at the club's Academy, it was Ince who opened the scoring when he finished off a fine move on five minutes.

However, Celtic responded and drew level soon after when the home side failed to deal with a right-wing cross to the far post.

Nikola Saric then went close to restoring the advantage when he guided a header wide before Suso maintained his fine pre-season form by firing beyond the 'keeper on 26 minutes.

The Reds continued to dominate throughout the remainder of the first 45 and should have made it three on the stroke of the interval when they put together the move of the match.

Ince toyed with the Celtic defence before clipping a delightful ball into the path of Suso. The Spanish ace feigned a shot and then crossed low for Amoo, but he failed to convert on the stretch.

The second half mirrored the first, with Liverpool well in the ascendancy and after substitute Lauri Dalla Valle twice went close, Palsson saw his speculative 30 yarder spilled into his own net by the Celtic 'keeper.

As the clocked ticked down the visitors rarely looked like reducing the arrears and in the last minute substitute Kacaniklic raced through, rounded the 'keeper and put the icing on the cake.

Liverpool Reserves: Gulacsi, Darby, Robinson (Mendy 61), Wisdom, Mavinga (Flanagan 46),Roberts (Palsson 46), Irwin (Cooper 61), Ince, Saric (Dalla Valle 46), Suso, Amoo (Kacaniklic 46).

Jedi mind trick.

Re: Reserves impress Roy

Maybe he was clapping and punching the air during the match, hence the inference.
