As a stand-in, I'd be OK with Origi too. An understudy doesn't have to be as good as the first choice for that position. He does have to be good enough to perform to the required standard when called upon, but (genuine question) how can there be any reasonable doubt after last night that Origi meets that standard?

And sorry, but the "I'm sure there's better out there" argument is a bit of an iffy one without actual names and some idea whether those players would be available at a fee we'd be willing to pay. Example: some scoper on a Facebook page I saw earlier today was saying.we should go after Son. As if.

He also is different from Firmino in style - much more physical, even though Firmino is tough for his size. I think if he plays a little more, he can be a good option against certain teams. And, I expect Brewster is something different too.

I don’t know much about Brewster, but in my mind he is more of an Owen type. Is that far wrong?

Judge - totally with you on your response, I mean we have two front men with the highest number of goals in the PL this season ? - now unless one of them or both of them leaves, why would we want to get someone just as good and then sign them for gazillion pounds and then justify sitting him on the bench and tell him - 'sorry you are going to have wait until Mane/Salah get injured or the league cup is right for you' - the stand-in should be a reliable player, but rarely as good as your first choice.

Regarding Origi - I have been one of his biggest supporters, and was delighted when we signed him coz I remember his performances at the world cup in Brazil, he did stand out a bit. Then in Klopp's first season he was improving with every game until his injury against that Evertonian twat. Since then I think he has had a confidence issue getting back to form, but it is clear that Klopp always had high hopes for the kid based on his first season under Klopp. It looks like he is finally taking those chances, and I would not be surprised if we see him scoring on Sunday again if Klopp starts him. I really hope he signs an extension, because I really think it will be a two way thing. I hear Barca want to get rid of Malcom - if that is true I would not even be surprised if they came in for Divok.

As the old saying goes, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

He seems to be one of those players who score important goals. I say hang on to him.
