I think the trouble with trying to find a scandal is that Trump's entire presidency is a scandal. Not some dark machiavellian one either. More like when my kid claimed not to have painted the walls black and then I pointed at the black paint all over his body, and the fact that he was holding the paint.
Because of how it will look when he dithers, misremembers and avoids the issue with an empty denial. If it wasn't his laptop, he'd be denying it already, not waiting to see what information leaks out then tailoring a strategy around it. The voters will see it the same way.

And it won't come up as a question in the debate, so all biden will have to do is dismiss it cursorily and say, americans want to hear about xxx.

You would undermine football for the same reasons in a heart beat. The game died decades ago, and is now a sad facsimile of something that used to be beautiful. Existing for no reason than to part people from their money.
The public just don't see it in science because it's not as easy as understanding football. Trust me, science has undermined itself and it's totally fake. Even genuine researchers who have no bad intentions, they don't know or care enough to realise the difference between the fake science they have come to believe is perfectly normal, and the genuine article their great ancestors created.
Trump was 100% right to call them idiots, even though he thinks he's lying.
