I signed up with betfair 12months ago for a go ont he national, I lost, but left 20quid in the account.
They sent me some mails at the time (after I'd bet and lost) that they wanted a proof of ID (they didn't complain whilst taking my money off me) and said I could credit my account with a credit card, or send them my passport/drivers licence (bollocks to that). But I left it and didn't think about it.
I've just come to sign in again and spend that 20quid on the world cup and lose it, and they're locking my account refusing to let me in. I called them, and some clown said he'd unlocked it and 'try in 5mins' so I did - obviously locked. So then I tried their online live chat help, and they said there is no way they will let me in my account without them having my passport or drivers licence. I told them they couldn't have this due to me doing work for the government on occasion and it might compromise my security clearance, but they're not having a bar of it.
Is this common practise for these chancers? Get you in, take your money, then stitch you up?
