Benteke - BOOOOOO the puns

Do we think thats it now for signings?
Weve only spent about 25m net.
Benteke 32m
Firmino 29m
Clyne 12m
Gomez 3.5m

Minus
Raheem 49m
Coates 4m
Aspas 4.5m

It looks like he got a little bit too excited on joining us

Was against this signing but fuck it.
He's going to score a shit load and become top scorer in the league.
At least our squad is looking top 4 material now.

We've only received £36m for Sterling (with a final fee being around £40m after the 20% to QPR), so that puts the net spend at near £40m. That's without Milner's cost in signing on fee, Ings £7 compensation, the amount we've spent on around 5 youngsters, the further additions to the Gomez fee, etc.

We've spent well, I think that's it, give or take a cheap addition or two.

Did we actually get £30m upfront for sterling?

I heard we paid £16m up front for benteke. Without knowing the payment breakdown it's kinda pointless speculating on net spend isn't it? It could look a lot healthier than you've speculated or even worse dependent on how and when the monies are paid/received

The counter to that is we have only spent £21m on Firmino and £10.5m on Clyne at the moment, so total outlay is £30m. The money for Ings and other bits & pieces will be more than recouped from the sales of Lambert, Borini and Balotelli plus we sold Assaidi last winter for £4.5m and brought in no-one.

There's probably more money available but I doubt if we will bring in another big money acquisition, the only change could be if we get a big offer for Lucas and need a replacement.

For all the positive changes (and we look much stronger than last year), we are still weak at left back and holding midfield and have to hope that Gomez and Can will step into the breach and have mega-seasons.

DM is the position which concerns me the most, because I suspect that Rodgers doesn't want one at all and that his preference is for a midfield made up of all-rounders who buzz around all over, doing whatever's needed when it's needed. Given that practically everybody plays with a DM now, including better teams than we currently are, and given also that our defence was a shambles too often last season, I'm apprehensive about the effect that such a midfield set-up could have on our season, despite the fact that we've got a lot of attacking talent and will cause teams problems with it.

Brendan Rodgers as manager... Jordan Henderson as Captain... Joe Allen as our Xavi... and now Christian Benteke as recors signing.... we really do our best to become mediocre....

Ings will cost ca. 8m at the tribunal and Milner had a signing on fee, maybe around 5m.

EDIT : *sigh* quiffed again 🙁

Sakho, Benteke and Skrtel. We might actually score a few goals from set pieces again this season.

Yeah but then you cant assume we paid that amount out upfront either right?
Im not saying we will sign anyone, I think we are probably done, but if Borini, Enrique and Balotelli all leave for say 20m we will actually have had a very cheap summer.
Weve also knocked 2 of the biggest earners off the wage bill so we are actually probably going to be only 20m over season on season.

On getting rid of Andy Carroll

[article]My thinking was that, when you play with a target man, he becomes the focal point of your team, so everything has to be set up around the big guy. Sometimes you get sucked into doing it more direct, and clearly, with my history as a coach, I don’t work that way.
Removing that means you have to connect your game better through the lines, through the thirds. Possession is not good enough on its own, you have to penetrate. That’s what Luis does. He is always on the move, in spaces and in behind defenders[/article]
