Benteke - BOOOOOO the puns

Let me, as someone who's been somewhere between the two schools of thought all along on this, try and be more specific about what my queries are.

I agree that a lot of comments on Benteke here (and to some extent in the media) have really been no more than superficial kneejerks and that there's quite a lot more to his game than some have said. My concerns aren't about his individual skill set but about his ability to fit in with our overall style of play. Rodgers himself has described the approach he wants from his teams as "death by football", involving both the midfield and the front line buzzing around like angry wasps, using possession as quickly as poss.and closing it down equally quickly when the opposition has the ball. My hesitation over buying Benteke - whom I'll support if we sign him - centres on whether he will fit successfully into that pattern of play, with its huge demands on mobility. Perhaps he can, but (a) I'm not sure about that and (b) I'm not aware he's done so previously.

Yeah Teeth might have said he was after death by football, but last season we nearly died of boredom. I'm well happy with the signings so far, I'm happy Sterling has fucked off to a club that suits his demeanor, and I reckon Benteke is gonna get a zillion goals next season if we sign him.

A point here - I think part of the reason we went for Firmino is that he's excellent at those runs in behind the defence. One thing Benteke may be able to do well is create space by occupying defenders, and those spaces may well be exploited by Firmino. So really, he'd be making the runs Coutinho needs, not Benteke.

Origi, Ings and Sturridge also provides that.
Think we'll play quite a few games with two strikers.

Sturridge Benteke
Firmino
Coutinho Henderson
Milner

Or something like that.

How come a lot of the respected journalists are using the phrase Liverpool are going to trigger his release clause. What does this actually mean.
This was reported by James Pearce 2 hours ago, surely all it entails Ian Ayre calling AV saying we will pay it and we would be given permission to speak to Benteke what takes so long?

The club will feed this sort of stuff to the friendly journalists. All part of keeping them on side.

Fucking loser's attitude.

Fitting for what this club is becoming.
Jesus, how do you know we didn't try our best to sign him but he had no interest? People assuming all these players would jump at the chance to join us need to get their head out of the clouds.

I think you may well have a point. Also, depending on his attitude, Benteke may also add that aspect to his game.

SO our two most expensive players of all time are Andy Carroll and Christian Benteke.

Not knocking Benteke really - but that's 70 odd million. This is why we're out of the top 4.

Ah the unmistakable wit of a post-pedantic intellectual.

Look Peter, it isn't up to me to defend myself against the accusations that I'm simultaneously a post-pedantic intellectual, a dimwit, and pretentious. I'd obviously say that I think you're talking shite. I will say this though, in support of my original accusation. Normally when you meet people off the site they can surprise and confound your expectations. Posters who rubbed you up the wrong way on the site, or you barely acknowledged, turned out to be good lads. Without mentioning names, I've heard from people who have actually met with you that you really are a total dick. It isn't a persona. That's really you.

Yep.. I just find it baffling, why we never learn from our mistakes..

I'm not in favour at all. Enough of my family are villa fans for me to have seen plenty of Benteke and I've never thought he was a striker that we needed. There's not much out there to be honest so I understand Rodgers desire to bring in a proven forward, but I don't think it will prove a worthwhile investment in the long term. Hopefully I'm wrong, but there's too many alarm bells to give this signing my backing.

@ILD I've decided I will read @mark1975 posts all season regarding Bentekkers... This will help me to try and see the positives in this signing if it goes tits up.....

Did I completely miss some build up to this argument?

Or has it come out of nowhere.

(I'm enjoying it though, it has to be said)

Hahahahaha!

Well what can I say? Proof has been given!

All I know is I met a bunch of the lads from London and we remained friends. So that's my "defence".

As for the rest, I don't expect a counter argument from you. I just think, and always have, that anyone going out of their way to let other people know they're a Phd is a laughable cunt. Let us decide for ourselves if you're clever, say I. Which I do - and you're not. You're just a smug pompous dullard.

I wouldn't necessarily make a point of telling you that, but you called me a prick so that's my excuse.

As I say, I'll leave it to people who know me to decide if I'm any of the growing list of things that you think I am. I'm pretty sure I'm right in that you are a prick though. I'm very confident.

Dunno if this is over yet. All the reporters are from our side and if we are jumping in now because of yesterday's story what's to stop the mancs from matching the release clause? Nothing from Villa or the player yet
