According to a questionaire by Marca, fans of Real Madrid knows who they'd want to guide their stars to glory should Pellegrini get booted;

Senior Rafael Benitez

With a staggering 37 percent of the votes he's a firm fan favourite. Michael Laudrup came in second with 22 percent of the votes whereas Victor Fernandez ended third with 15 percent of the votes.

More than 50,000 voted.

Madrid will clearly be his next step but he's not an old manager and he'll want to complete his project here first.

Like Xabi really, I think he'll be happy to be in Madrid but really genuinely miss the Liverpool fans & the club. It's never the same after leaving.

Rafa and his family loves LFC far more than Xabi ever did.

I don't think Rafa will ever leave us by choice, without having won the Premiership trophy that is.

He'll probably win it this Season but hopefully that'll just make him want to linger on for many more years as well.

The Spanish Rage takes the news badly:

real madrid don't deserve a decent manager. their fans are the worst in football. it's like having 90,000 rages' supporting the club.

I agree mate.

He'll be with us for sometime yet, unless of course G&H decide to do the unthinkable.

del bosque

2 league titles
2 CL titles

= sacked

at all but maybe 5 clubs in world football they'd carve a statue of him and place it outside the ground.

One of the worst jobs you can have in football though, Marca are already calling for Pellegrinis head.
Managers win the league, and then get sacked cause they don't play attractive enough football.

That said, Benitez will certainly want this job sometime in the future.

rafa wants to mirco manage every aspect of liverpool fc so him taking the real job makes no sense, it wont happen.

I think it is safe to assume that as long as Jorge Valdano is there at Madrid, Rafa wont join them.

Agreed, and there's no sign of Valdano being about to leave. If he were to do so in about 5 years' time things might be different, tho' (a) Rafa's family love it in Liverpool and (b) I suspect that he won't want to leave LFC at any point before he thinks his work is done.

The funny thing is that Perez + Valdano chose the galacticos for the coach, and then the coach has to pay for the failures... What id it that makes Valdano so immune from being sacked?

I was wondering that myself. He must be the shittest DF or football advisor or whatever they call him around. The amount of money spent, revolving door manager policy has been staggering.

Isn't Butragueno "bessy" with Perez? Isn't it time he gets his chance to waste Real's money? 😉

Perez is a self-obsessed slag who will take any support he can get wherever he can get it.

From what I remember of Butragueno as a player (incidentally one Spanish fella I used to know referred to him, jokingly I think, as "Buitreguano", i.e.vulture sh!t) he's not the type of person to push himself forward. Valdano by contrast is a loudmouthed spic with about as much class as your average sewer rat.

Vulture (El Butre) was indeed his nickname.
As for the sh!t part - your friend is probably not a Real Madrid fan.

It was a long time ago, and funnily enough I can't remember who he supported. I do recall the guy himself was from Burgos, if that's any clue.

I'm not sure. If he feels he's not being valued, or has been mislead by the owners, I'm sure he would seriously look at other options. Coupled with a lingering ambition to manage Madrid one day, and you never know.

*Cough* It's "misled". Mislead is the stuff some people nick off misroofs.

from the fountain of knowledge that is Guillem Balague.....................

Everybody at Real was ashamed and we will see the consequences in this game. If they lose here and the Bernabeu decides that Manuel Pellegrini has to go then he may go. Let's see what happens next.

Florentino Perez would like the general manager Jorge Valdano to take over but he doesn't want to do that. Michael Laudrup has been told to wait and not to take another job because he could go to Real Madrid this season. I also heard there is the possibility of Luiz Felipe Scolari coming in.
