Benayoun hits out...

NOt much point, Wiz.

Those ripping into him are the usual suspects, if you notice; although I'm not going to say anything for fear of a similar label. 8)

Truth is, no one really can confirm this way or that.

The fact that he's not said anything whilst at the club is praise-worthy, tho.

My point was that it used to be that an unhappy player put in a transfer request and instructed his agent to find him another club; then he would move on and continue his career. No recriminations.

If as you say his ex-international coach was critical and we add that to that a club coach who wasn't convinced that he was worthy of regular starts perhaps Yossi's opinion of himself is at odds with professional coaches?

1st point - he was unhappy two years ago too, or at least we were led to believe that by his agent. He was given his chances and Rafa rode him and he gave us really important goals. This past year, he never got given a run at AM (ok, no one can argue this unless people wanted Gerrard-Masch ahead of Lucas-Masch) or RM (where Kuyt had a long stretch of average to poor games). He wasn't even given a 'bench spot' in the last game, much like Riise. Something tells me he really didn't leave because he initiated it. He was always spoke positively about Liverpool, before and after the move. And as I said, too many players (Keane, Crouch, Alonso) were treated like this to make it seem as if Yossi was just trying to justify his move. Lastly, IF Rafa had been as successful as Fergie, I wouldn't really give two shits about this move. Fact is, we got weaker last year and Rafa left two solid squad players off his team b/c of what seems like idiocy.

2nd point - Scharf was never his head coach as far as I remember. He was Israel's coach in the early 1990s I think. He's just a leading pundit who was very harsh because of Israel's failure to get through to the WC. So Yossi ripped into him, without using his name, on a TV show following him around Liverpool/the WC games (this was during his 1-0 goal against madrid, fulham etc stage).

Brendan - what was Yossi on here?

The last thing this club needed was more dirty laundry being washed in public. If Yossi truly respected the club, he should have been more measured in his criticism. Look at some of Xabi's comments after he left - full of class and dignity and still managed to convey the reason he left without getting personal. Also if Yossi cannot speak for Riera and Alonso, he should not have mentioned their names in the interview. The language he used is classless and smacks a little bit of cowardice. I doubt he would have gone to this extent if Rafa was still here.

I love that Benny is spilling the beans to us fans. Why shouldn't we know the truth?

It saves all the pointless 'speculation' between the RCDNWers and the other side.

Benitez forced out Alonso = Fact

Benitez forced out Benny = Fact

Benitez poor man-management as many of us have said for years = Fact

Basically, thank fuck he's gone, and we can finally look forward to change under Hodgson.

I find it confusing why Rafa wanted him to sign a contract if he was going to treat him like Yossi said he did. Odd.

for the same reason he sold crouch and keane after extensions/signing.

yossi thought he was going to have a bigger role after what he did two years ago. it never materialized.

Dont blame him at all for firing a few parting shots at Rafa. I wonder how many other players will have a go when they write their books? Sad times, Rafa has left us a legacy of unhappy players.

Anyway, farewell Casper. In the pantheon of great Jewish players we have had, you are just behind Ronnie Rosenthal and ahead of Avi Cohen

We will never forget you

Sometimes I do wonder if you know the difference between 'Israeli' & 'Jewish' ... because Jan Molby was a Jew too

... at least that's what I thought after I saw that video of him eating 100 potato latkes.

That's a pretty disgraceful interview from Yossi. Quite revealing though.
I dont see why him speaking out about Rafa is any different to rafa speaking out against Purslow TBH.

He talks about not saying anything due to respect for the fans. Then attacks Benitez the minute he steps out of the door. I don't like it when players do that, regardless of whether it is merited. It shows a lack of class IMO

Yossi left and that was that. Did we really need any elaboration? Firstly it wasn't regular football and that's understandable but now its Rafa!

I don't doubt that Rafa treated players shabbily but he did get sacked after all. The Chav deal only went through after Rafa was gone. Money played no part in the move I suppose!

God this kind of thing makes me really dislike Rafa.

It's not the Liverpool way and sickens me.

Yossi could have been so much more.
Hahaha. So when Yossi and his agent were trying to bully the manager into giving him a greater part in the team, by spreading stories he was going to leave if he didn't get what he wanted two seasons ago, ARE the Liverpool way.

There's two sides to every story, it makes me laugh how many, just want to believe the person who speaks out as being the bearer of truth. The real truth is we will probably never know.

I think Yossi is bang on tbh, lets face it, it's only confirming what most have said for a long time regards Rafa's man-management skills. And most of this with Yossi is common knowledge now anyway, he's only filling in the gaps. I can't believe the amount of posters who've jumped in either Rafa's defence or on the attack over this.
I agree. I dont want to get into another pointless long winded RCDNW vs RCDNR debate but Rafa was shit at man management and it shows. Just because most players dont have the mouth to say it (althout Murphy and others have intimated it) doesnt mean that he leaves too many tears behind him. It makes me wonder what Aurelio and Pellebastard do that makes them so immune, its certainly not their performances.
And it just makes me hopeful that Hodgson's approach will be what the team needs ...

What Yossi is mentioning is probably what sent Crouch (Brendan calls him shit, even though he cared for the club, never spoke badly and gave it his all), Riise (one mistake and you're fucked) and others packing. I wonder if Gerrard Carra or Torres will ever be open about the shit that went down.

After reading stuff like this, I wonder how ANYONE can seriously have wanted Rafa to stay over Hodgson ...
A) He didn't send Crouch packing, Crouch wanted a starting place every week.
B) Your defence of Yossi, who was only ever going to be a bit part player, does smack of you defending a fellow countryman. Not that its wrong, it just appears to lack any objectivity imho

All Rafa said was Purslow was the boss and it was what he wanted, Rafa never really said anything else.

In the greater scheme of things does any of this matter? Riera wanted to leave but may well stay if Roy gives him a chance. Yossi could have done the same.

Rafa and Yossi are both gone. They are not going to impact our future and are but footnotes in our history. Time to move on and create a new chapter in our history!

Right, and Single & Mark are defending him because they're both Israelis too? I guess you also believe Rafa did nothing wrong with Xabi or Keane or Riera? It says a lot that you're stooping to the Brendan line of thinking ... He's the only fool who keeps on with this line, even when we agreed on Yossi's role when he was on the team (option off the bench).

Xabi underperformed for two years, Keane was shit, and Reira punched a under 18 player but of course that was Rafas fault.

Keane was utterly Rafa's fault.

For buying him in the first place when he didn't really have a clear idea of what to do with him, for dropping him when he finally started to show some signs of improving form, and for selling him at a loss 6 months later and not lining up a proper replacement.

From start to finish, a fucking shambles

Rafa isn't without blame but he made it clear that he only wanted him if we signed Barry, yet Parry went ahead and signed him before the Barry deal was agreed. But even if we choose to ignore that point there was absolutely no way of knowing that he was suddenly going to become a quarter of the player he was the season before (unless you were physic Rosco). Spurs fans were gutted when we signed him (I shared a flat with two Spurs fans), and the majority of Liverpool fans on this website were delighted. In fact numerous fans were praising Rafa for spending his budget on a couple of big budget signing instead of the usual strategy of 3 squad players and one big player. Rafa had a clear view of what he wanted him for but he was signed outside of the plan, granted Rafa did drop him when he was improving but we are not privy to the training matches and it is entirely possible that Keane was still shit on the training ground.
