Match Thread Bayer Leverkusen (H) - Tues 20:00

An Excellent win and I am happy for Diaz's performance, who always tries his best in all games! All players have raised the bar in the second half, and scored good goals against a very good team. I thought Jones has played well, and he is developing into a top player providing he stays fit and avoid injuries!.

We need another good show in the coming games! Good Luck

The Liverpool head coach said: “I only have four strikers available at the minute and with the fixture list it is almost impossible to play them all the time. And I think [Jonathan] Tah is one of the best defenders in Germany, if not the best, and he likes to play against a target man so I chose to play Lucho [Díaz] from the left and the middle to surprise him with runs in behind. What a pass from Curtis Jones [for Diaz’s opening goal].”

Nice when a plan comes together.

To be fair this version of Leverkusen isnt as good as the 23/24 side. Not sure why, but they are struggling a bit more this season and conceding more goals.

Well, you were right. I should have got the hint when I saw that a bunch of PL rejects are stars in that league.
Kane scoring for fun too.
This seems to be the refrain whenever a PL team does well against a German team - instead of giving credit to (on this occasion Liverpool) the PL team, it's 'oh that league is shite'. Maybe the same can be said of the PL now City have been thrashed?

Fatigue. They went to 2 finals and went unbeaten in the BL. A lot of high pressure games so 'second season syndrome'. Unless you've got unlimited resources (City, Real etc.) it's bound to catch up with you - as we know more than most.

Well we've played RB Leipzig too and we've seen Bayern get dismantled by Barca

Yes but that's one instance compared to three.
And Villa beat Bayern too, so four
Oh dear. That doesn't infer that the BL is shite.

BM have reached the EC/CL semis more than twice as many times as we have and their most recent win was after ours ! After that win came 3 1/4 finals and last season a semi final. So not being at the top of their game for a season or two is only a hiccup as we all know.

And it's not just one team ... as which country has had the most CL semi-finalists (silly stat warning)? England lead that with 10 but Germany are second with 9 ! Spain 7.

That's all well and good, but this season they're shite

Waaaay too early to say. They lost to a very good Barca team and their defeat away at Villa was a fluke (5-17 shots and 15-61 attacks) similar to ours vs Forest (so clearly we are shite too). In the BL they are 7-2-0.

Yeah, there is a noteable drop off this season.

If you don’t count Stuttgart who viped the floor with Juve the other day.

I think the problem with BL is that teams other than Bayern cannot stay consistent year after year - every season there is a new crop of overachievers who push last season’s darlings out of the way. Their top 4 is not as calcified as it is here.

Yeah they're 7-2-0 because it's a shite league.
Freakin Eric Dier is playing for them.
The top 3 in England wouldn't touch him with 5 foot pole.
The Bundesliga has a good history but their teams can't compete with the top teams in the Europe now. So far this season they've proved my point.

Agreed, and it seems its difficult to get some continuity.

Juve beating Leipzig 3-2 away with 10 men and then getting beat 1-0 at home with 10 men against Stuttgart.

Weird one.

It’s clear the EPL is hands down the best league and the only reason it doesn’t dominate all European competitions is the sheer number of games English sides have with a 20 team league and two domestic cups.
The FA sets themselves up to fail.

Is it a tennis style draw after this I.e. 1st plays lowest rank team from knock outs or are there more draws?
