So has Barry signed for Citeh yet?
He's having a medical tonight.

£11m is the price.
I wonder what kind of formation Citeh will play next season.

This kinda blows a big gaping hole into the SCM Boardroom Inner Sactuary We know What's Going On Behind The Scenes And We're Gonna Give Rafa An Online Raping For It doesn't it?

What with Rafa repeating ad nauseum that he wants Alonso to stay, and Barry being chatted up by some Arabs at Citeh, it's not really been a good start to the summer for the boys.

Fire away...
I don't think the mods ever claims anything was 'set in stone' in fact they did quite the opposite to it.
Oooooh So close. I thought for one minute every single solitary poster on scm was going to ignore that and leave it to fester as the cuntish, bitter little post it was. Ah well.
As far as I can see some of the mods have had some information passed onto them from time to time, some has been true and others complete shite (much like what is printed in the papers) they commented on what they have heard, boo hoo. None of them said it was gospel, I am greatful for any 'insider' information passed on, I won't take it as the truth and I won't call anyone a cunt if it turns out to be shite

That's totally unnecessary, obviously they're just going on what they've heard. And I, for one, appreciate it when people share information, and I'm guessing it's posts like this that make the mods reluctant to share.

Like with any 'insider info', you have to take it with a pinch of salt, it's not set in stone.
In Ryans defense I think his issue wasn't with the info being supplied but rather that some people used the information as a slight against Rafa without it being proven fact

Not that I give a shit one way or the other, just clearing that one point up

Gareth Barry Has Medical At Manchester City - Report
The midfielder's move north has edged a considerable step closer...
2 Jun 2009 16:23:57

Gareth Barry's somewhat surprising move to Manchester City has taken another decisive move forward this afternoon, as Sky Sports News is reporting that the England international is set to undergo a medical this afternoon.

Should that run as smoothly as anticipated, then the broadcaster understands that it is likely that Barry will be confirmed as a Manchester City player within the next 48 hours, after a fee, reported to be £11 million, has been agreed between the clubs.

The only possible snag that might delay the switch is the England's squad's lengthy flight out to Kazakhstan for their forthcoming World Cup qualifier.

Villa manager Martin O'Neill is yet to speak publicly about the deal, though the thought of such a talismanic player departing to a club who didn't qualify for European competition cannot sit easily with the Northern Irishman, who has in the past insisted that he had no problem with the player leaving for a club in the Champions League.

City, of course, are backed by the fantastic wealth of the Abu Dhabi Group, and this is unlikely to be the Citizens last piece of business in a summer where the scope of their ambition may become truly clear.

So does this mean Javi Martinez is coming to Liverpool then?
I'm thinking Barry probably felt he could no longer stay at Villa and turned towards Liverpool, with Rafa and Xabi insistant he isn't going anywhere then Barry may well have had his head turned by other clubs and the offer of billions of pounds at City. Rafa still needs a replacement for Lucas though as it is pretty much the 3 players for the 2 positions at the moment with Stevie becoming less of a central midfield player for us.

It really is a strange deal.

All of the cash in the world and you sign...

Gareth Barry?

I wonder how the City fans are feeling now.

I'm surprised if he ends up there, it's a huge mistake for him sadly and it doesn't look good saying he'll only go for CL football.

it strikes me as a move for all the wrong reasons, like Owen not being patient when Newcastle came in for him when he was at Madrid.

Yes but come on, really, what TRULY counts to todays modern footballer ?

All the cash in the world means jack right about now, they offered Kaka loads and he still didn't care. They should continue to buy good premiership players over the next season or two and push themselves into a champ league space then 'bigger' players heads will be turned.

God knows mate. The only thing that looks certain though, is that they're going to have a very decent squad to choose from.

Wasn't there something about a money plus Lucas for Forlan? don't know how accurate it was though

I'm somewhat disappointed if he signs, I would think that a midfield of Masch, Xabi and Barry would be pretty formidable.

Why is that unfortunate? we want players who are committed and determined to be a Liverpool player, Lucas has shown that. Barry hasn't, so that's that. I would honestly rather have Lucas and hopefully we can develop him into the player we need rather than embarass ourselves trying to outbid City. it's very hard trying to sign players these days.

'Hopefully develop Lucas' so until then we keep our fingers crossed and not buy another player?

He doesnt exactly fill me with alot of confidence rebel. He has heart but he doesnt seem to have the strength to play in the Premiership. If we want to win the league we can't carry a single player.

being committed and determined is very important quality, look at Quaresma for example talented player but no committment so he's not going to be a top player. whatever you think, Lucas can still improve with time and coaching i'm sure Benitez feels that.

I can see some sense in it for Barry at this point. If our, and the reported Arsenal, interest has now cooled a move to Man City will, I speculate, give him more money, a guaranteed first team place (in a World Cup year) and an easier season (potentially) than the one he'd face at Villa when having to play in the Europa League. Also, the prospect of CL footy the season after next would appear to be higher with Man City than Villa. At his age that's perhaps as good as it's going to get if a Top 4 side is not competing for his signature.

city need a new manager before they can break into the top 4 regardless of who they buy. if hughes starts as manage next season there will be no champions league for barry at city the season after next.

You strive to make the CL and give it a right good go but just fall short.

Now you are agreeing to sell 'once-your-long-standing-captain' to a rival that will be picking up the 'challenging-for-CL-spot' baton.

Whilst £11mln is not to be sniffed at, its a killer for Villa reputationally, they cant sell the possibility of CL football to a prospective signing and keep a straight face.

What the fuck is DHSC on about?

How are City fans feeling?

Overjoyed that quality players like Tevez and Barry are even *considering* signing for their shitty fucking loser club because a load of monied oil arabs own it?

Hopefully this will mean that Alonso rumours are not true. Althought I still think we need a new central midfielder.
