Barry

There may be some logic to it from the Barry camp.

After last season, by talking with City this early, it prompts other clubs including us and Arsenal I would suspect to either sh!^ or get off the pot.

Given that no-one has touched their transfer kitty then there is less chance of Barry losing out on his move because other clubs couldnt afford him e.g. Keane to us last Summer = not enough left for Barry.

If no-one is prepared to move for him now then it is unlikely they ever would, plus he probably doesnt want another pre-season like the one he has last Summer when he had to train and play infront of the fans in August friendlies when everyone knew he was trying to leave.

As for his claim about CL football - if the big clubs aint moving now, then he must be thinking that the pay-packet makes can numb that ache.

Given the choreographed public statements from Barry, Gerrard and Benitez last summer, do you not think he will feel he was fucked over by H&G not matching (or getting close to) the value that was agreed with his agent and O'Neill?

You're the same cunt who quacked on about how we "didn't have the money" to complete the deal, who was then made to look *an even bigger* cunt when we subsequently agreed over £20m to sign Robbie Keane.

Yup.

He also thought Villa were going to replace Liverpool in the Big Four.

[quote author=rebel23 link=topic=33928.msg880425#msg880425 date=1243945076]...

it's delusional though, he is worth what others are willing to pay Liverpool were willing to go close to that valuation but not match or exceed it. he was really fucked over by O'Neill that summer and I think he knows it. Ambitious players will not go to Villa in case O'Neill does the same thing and refuses to release them if a club like Liverpool (or United) come in for them, because usually it won't happen again and there are many clubs and managers who are more reasonable for these players to go to.

So Villa will end up with players who are near the end of their careers and willing to make the committment like Heskey.

it's all about being reasonable though, some managers will do the deal recognising that they dont want a player who isnt committed to the cause and when a big club like Liverpool come in for you it's usually very much a desire on the part of the player too. Not to mention the over 10 YEARS outstanding service Barry has given Villa.

But no, O'Neill and Villa wanted to screw every penny they could have out of the transfer and put it well beyond a reasonable price in most of our eyes anyway and then even worse, they now say they're happy for him to waste another year of his short career at Villa and run down his contract!

What message does this send out to ambitious players? That O'Neill only wants you if you make a life long committment? who in the right mind is going to join Villa without escape clauses and prior agreements when he can go elsewhere with a more reasonable manager who will release him if he does well and wants to move on? it's all about give and take and O'Neill will find talented players turn him down because he's a cunt.

Yup.

Where did that huge investment last summer get them to again?

Was it below Everton and one place above Fulham?

No wonder Barry wants to leave.

Behave with your use of the word cunt - there is no need for it, its nice to have an opinion from the other side of the fence.

Haha.. that's a right kick in the teeth.. and you make a good point behind it too. Players like Young and Agbolonhor would also be looking at that thinking *if MoN is like that with a loyal servant like Gareth.. hmmm, so what happens if United/Arse/Chelsea/Pool come in for me*.. i wouldn't be surprised if they looked to put in get-out clauses in their next contracts.

Well at least that explains the Robbie Keane debacle. You bought him to prove what a c*** I am? Well done, money well spent.

unless the height of their ambition is playing for Villa and fair play if they do break the top 4, Barry gave them a chance of that this season when he could have easily been more aggressive and what does he get? the cunts are trying to flog him to MAN CITY !!

haha, I honestly despair. O'Neill is a grade A cock.

So, Villa's players would do well to just run down their contracts, put it this way it's the wrong way to run a football club. managers have to be practical and get the deals done not have these saga's or haggling over a few million. it's boneheaded

Owen was a world class striker and wanted to leave. We had no choice but accept the 8m pounds on offer from Madrid.

Barry is solid midfielder, and wants to leave. Yet Villa want 15 odd million for him? I guess if there are mugs around that want to pay that, then more power to them, but if Barry put his foot down and said, "no thanks, I want CL football", it'd be interesting to see how Villa deal with that situation having had a whiff of City's Arab dollars, whether they'd be prepared to lower their valuation to a realistic one (for a player's his ability and contract length) or whether they'd become be even more steadfast in their determination to get big money for him.

Look, I admire your one-eyed view of your club but isn't Liverpool haggling over the same few million as Villa?

Once again you have Gerrard in the papers this morning making the same plea to your board as last year.
“Would I still like to see Gareth Barry join Liverpool? Yes. He is a top player. Top players improve your team and squad. He is a Liverpool type of player.

“He is very clever but he is still an Aston Villa player and I don’t want to disrespect Martin O’Neill. If it happens, then great.

“If it doesn’t, hopefully we get players in of Gareth’s standard."

This time you can't use O'Neill's obstinacy as the excuse, not when he has accepted the offer from Man City. All Liverpool has to do is match it.

I understand every player has a price, but no way is Gareth fucking Barry worth £12m what with 1 year to go on his contract.

Fuck him off Rafa we don't need him. We've got Alonso

I dont think the plea is to the board, more to Barry

does Gareth want to join City or does he want to join Liverpool and play with someone like Gerrard, one of the best players in the world? time for Gareth to speak. I really want to hear what he says, at the very least this move will force him to make a decision and end it one way or another!

Most of us aren't upset at that C&B, i imagine a lot will be pleased and will look forward to pointing and laughing at Barry next season.

i'd liked to have seen barry as an upgrade to lucas but then i'd rather not have average barry anywhere near our club if it meant losing alonso.

I think if you realised how difficult it is to sign players especially with knobheads like Martin O'Neill and clubs like City bidding for everyone, if you were a manager you'd be pleased with someone like Lucas who has shown effort and desire to be a Liverpool player

As it stands, Barry's choice is Man City or Villa, he doesn't have a Liverpool option on the table to choose from. I would think Gerrard's message is directed at Liverpool to give him that option.

It's like Deja ClaretandBlue all over again ... I think we did this enough last year. To be honest, who cares? If we don't come up with whatever fee Villa are looking for a player in his last year of his contract, he'll end up hoping to one day playing in the CL rather than actually doing it.

I wonder if he has the 'balls' to just let his contract run out and then sign for one of the top 4 on a Bosman ...

No C&B, he can wait and drive the price down to acceptable levels, or does he think a manager who persued him all last summer still isnt interested?

"i'll only leave Villa for CL football", Barry will be a national laughing stock.

I think rebel makes a very good point here. Look at how Steve Bruce / Wigan played the transfer market - they brought in players with the promise that they'd get the opportunity to display their talent on the biggest stage and be allowed to move on should the right opportunity arise.

Now obviously Villa are about more than just surviving (these days anyways), but as has been said, a balance needs to be struck. Look at how Spurs handled the Keane transfer - they didn't want to sell, but he's been a good servant for them, 20M was a (very) good offer and they let him go. There are other examples of clubs handing reasonable transfers to players in recognition of good service.

Villa took care of their own interests, which they're more than entitled to, but if I was an up'n'coming player and had a number of options on the table, maybe I'd think twice about joining Villa knowing that they'd price me out of my dream move should it arise.

This kinda blows a big gaping hole into the SCM Boardroom Inner Sactuary We know What's Going On Behind The Scenes And We're Gonna Give Rafa An Online Raping For It doesn't it?

What with Rafa repeating ad nauseum that he wants Alonso to stay, and Barry being chatted up by some Arabs at Citeh, it's not really been a good start to the summer for the boys.

Fire away...

I don't think the mods ever claims anything was 'set in stone' in fact they did quite the opposite to it.

If Gareth Barry goes to Man City doesn't that kind of negate his wishes of playing for a top four club and in the Champions League. He's be better off staying at Villa. Can't see MON being happy about him moving to such a club. I guess it just goes to show Barry is probably just another greedy footballer. On a similar note I note Lucas Neill has turned down the contract offer from West Ham.

That's totally unnecessary, obviously they're just going on what they've heard. And I, for one, appreciate it when people share information, and I'm guessing it's posts like this that make the mods reluctant to share.

Like with any 'insider info', you have to take it with a pinch of salt, it's not set in stone.
