Downing is also most definately not a first teamer for a team with championship aspirations neither.

Downing is an average winger at best and a decent squad option. He may be a big fish in a snmall pond at Villa but that's all he is.

I hope that rumours of us going in for him is just that. We must and can do better.

They aren't.
 
We are going for adam & downing, however we'll be going for mch better quality as well, partly as due to the FFP thing we need off field revenue to increase, torres sale has made a dent in shirt sales, only a 'marquee' player or two will get that back.
 
The new away kit has actually never sold better, so it cant be that bad.
We're playing like we dont really want 5th, and I'm fine with that tbh.

Downing is a very good player and will add much needed width.
 
I thought that shirt sales only represented a small percentage of our earnings anyway. Perhaps the overall contribution to the 'brand' might be a bigger factor.

That said, there are very few players that can replace Torres in that respect. I've heard Mata being bandied about as a marquee signing, but he's not a star player. You'll probably need someone like Neymar or Hazard who perhaps have the potential to be the next Ronaldo or whatever.

They worded that claim about the away kit very well!

However I get your point, & its true that overall merchandise sales haven't dropped as kenny merchandise is outselling any of the players.
