[article]It seems almost certain that Asier Illarramendi will leave Real Madrid this summer.

The Spanish midfielder has failed to establish himself as a Real Madrid first teamer since joining from Real Sociedad in the summer before the 2013/2014 season.

Despite the recent injury to Luka Modric, Illarramendi was still unable to nail down a starting position in Carlo Ancelotti’s side with Brazilian Lucas Silva joining from Cruzeiro.

On Thursday, Spanish newspaper El Confidencial report that Liverpool are tracking developments regarding the deep-lying midfielder.

According to El Confidencial, Liverpool will challenge Athletic Bilbao – who tried to sign Illarramendi in the January transfer window and Real Sociedad, his former club.

Much will depend on where Liverpool finish this season with a Champions League spot either through the Europa League or a top four Premier League finish, key to snaring Illarramendi.

El Confidencial add that Xabi Alonso has urged Illarramendi to join Liverpool and that the style of play in the Premier League may suit the 24-year-old.

With so many young, quick and technical players already at Anfield, Liverpool would be improved immensely with a player that can pass as well as Asier Illarramendi.[/article]

Alonso lite in every department. Quite good looking but doesn't have the Alonso "turn men gay" features. He was considered the heir to Alonso when he was at Sociedad. Not quite worked out for him at Madrid.

However I am sure I read somewhere recently that he suffers from some anxiety issues which seem to have hindered his development and progress at Real Madrid.

Doubt he'll cost that much.

Hasnt quite settled at Real and this is one of those transfers were you can get an absolute diamond of a player if it works out.
So much potential and already a very good player.

Different players in my book but I would do anything to get him here. Isco might cost an extra 20 million though. Madrid have sold excellent players in the past (Robben, Di Maria etc) so they might sell Isco. He's a magnificent player but I doubt we'll ever see him in a Liverpool shirt.

I think he will cost in excess of 20 million. Arsenal were strongly linked in January transfer window. I agree with you that this could be a very clever signing. And if he is a success here, hopefully he wont kick up a fuss when Real are interested in him the second time.
