Kuyt will definitely start this one. Maybe Kelly in for Flanagan too. How long is Johnson out for does anyone know?

Great chance to win this one. Be interesting to see how Arsenal get on tomorrow night. Massive two weeks for them

Against Sunderland IMO it was obvious that we should have started with a front 2 of Suarez & Kuyt with Carroll as sub in case we needed to change our style of play in the second half.
This doesn't make sense at all. Kenny made the right choice it just didn't come off on the day.

Newcastle 5-1 Sunderland 2010/11
Man of the half was Andy Carroll. The big striker has been a nightmare for the Sunderland defenders.

Sunderland vs. Newcastle 2010/11
Carroll injured didn't play.

64% - Arsenal’s league win % with Fabregas in the starting XI last season, vs 31% without him.

Well he hasn't played once all season and we're still undefeated 8)

Our midfield will be piss poor, how they perform will probably determine how this goes

We're struggling to put together the best combination in there ourselves, so I wouldn't put too much emphasis on us winning the midfield battle, we lost it against Cattermole and co on Saturday.

One big advantage for us is that Arsenal have two crucial CL ties before and after this game, so they're gonna have to take that into consideration with their line-up, or risk being knackered.

I think we have a chance of sneaking a win, but it will be ugly and counter-attacking if we do manage it, and the more likely result is a draw.

We won't have a better chance to turn over Arsenal than this, play the same team as Saturday and we will spank them. This is a six pointer for fourth spot.

Not great odds, unsurprisingly 5.5 Liverpool win at half time and full time, just a tenner.
Straight win 3.5

Betting on us losing then?

I remain unconvinced by Kenny's tactical acumen and I think he'll get it wrong against Arsenal.

Against Sunderland IMO it was obvious that we should have started with a front 2 of Suarez & Kuyt with Carroll as sub in case we needed to change our style of play in the second half.

Against Arsenal it's obvious that Carroll should start because Arsenal are weak aerially but I think Kenny will pick the Suarez & Kuyt partnership that should have started on Saturday.

Why should Spearing be picked ahead of Lucas? Lucas every time but hopefully Meireles also starts.

Fuck that.

I really hope that Glenjo is back for the Arsenal game. If not play Kelly.
IMO Adam isn't fit and shouldn't start. Three man midfield is a must and I'd have Meireles and a certain Italian there if he hasn't f*cked off yet.

If you applied that to Adam you may as well do it to them all, if you don't play you don't get fit. He will be better next week.

Kelly HAS to star ahead of Flannagan.
I think we have as good a chance as we ever have of winning at the Emirates.
They've just lost Nasri and Fabregas and we play them before they've had a chance to get that out of their system and resume their fluidity.
I fancy us on Saturday. Just hope Kenny smells blood, rather accepting that a draw would represent success.

Cahill.

Fabio Aurelio suffered the latest of a string of injuries when damaging his Achilles tendon in training last week.

Daniel Agger also suffered a dead leg against Sunderland, but Martin Skrtel is expected to join his team-mates again following a calf problem, while Steven Gerrard is ready to push on in his recovery from groin surgery.

Because Spearing, although not great, is a much better player than Lucas. Fuck it, I'm 48 and could probably do a better job than Lucas.

I've decided not to post in the FF anymore because all my conversations end up with Lucas simply because his continual selection is our biggest problem at the moment. I'll start posting again when he is sold or not picked regularly and all the pro-Lucas posters have seen the light.

It's not pro Lucas to say he is better than Spearing, Lucas may not be the best CM around but come on Spearing?, he's passing is absolutely awfull especially simple short passing. Lucas everytime for me and not a massive Lucas fan but Spearing offers nothing.

Kelly HAS to star ahead of Flannagan.
While I agree that Kelly does look more promising, I think Flannagan would do a lot better with Kuyt ahead of him. Actually so would Kelly. I don't think it's wise to be playing either of the two young right backs with Henderson ahead of them. We need at least some experience on the flanks. If we're playing Henderson it needs to be with Johnson, at least until he settles in a bit more.

Agreed, and despite Flanno's ball watching for the goal the other day, his general positioning is alot better than Kelly's, who seems to constantly get caught. I'm not sure I agree with Modo either about Johnson and Adam. When Johnson is returning to match fitness he's a fucking liability (he is at the best of times anyway), as we saw in the friendly the other week. Regards Adam being 'unfit', he didn't look unfit to me, but he's always had stamina issues and struggled to play beyond the 60 minute mark. I agree we need more energy in there from someone like Meireles, but it should be aswell as Adam, not instead of.

---------------Reina----------------
MK/JF--Carra---Agger--Enrique
------Spearing--Adam------------
-----------Meireles-----------------
-Kuyt------Suarez-----Downing-

Kuyt seems to play well against Arsenal and will give us protection on the right, it's difficult to drop Carroll because I suspect he'll have a field day against Arsenal's backline. Regards Lucas vs Spearing, I just feel the wee lad has more energy and pace which might be a factor against Arsenal's breaks, we struggled with Sunderland's counter attacking at the weekend, against Arsenal we'll be in danger of being overran and giving soft freekicks away. The above seems a more fluid and mobile formation and selection than playing Lucas and trying to go with just two in the middle, Arsenal's midfield is weakened and it's important we get bodies in there to exploit it.

I'd play the same side again.
flannigan is a better defender than kelly, which will be important when arsenal attempt to play triangles around us and henderson wont be as cautious again.

Henderson needs to watch on and show he's ready when he's given a chance, there were too many changes on Saturday and two many new players, Kuyt needs to be back in there. And it's not kneejerk against Henderson, he's looked distinctly average and out of his depth throughout preseason aswell, Kuyt has proven himself time and time again against the big sides.
