Are we spending 150m on Bellingham?

Ancelotti: Bellingham? I'll stick with what I've got
Carlo Ancelotti has cooled talk of an imminent Real Madrid move for England starlet Jude Bellingham, by saying he is happy with the young midfielders he already has.

Real have been linked with a move for the 19-year-old Borussia Dortmund midfielder, but Ancelotti is satisfied with the likes of Fede Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelin Tchouameni.

"There are a lot of youngsters, like Enzo [Fernandez], and a lot of midfielders who are coming through, some of them Spanish," Ancelloti told the press.

"Bellingham is one of them, but I'll stick with my midfielders, who are very good, especially the youngsters, like Valverde, Camavinga and Tchouameni. We have a lot of young players."
He's forgetting where he is-- it's not the manager who decides which players to buy at Madrid.

Who is Mark Bellingham, Real Madrid target Jude’s father and agent?

[article]He’s the figure who inspired Jude Bellingham to become a footballer, and who now watches over the development of the Borussia Dortmund and England star’s career. We’re talking about the midfielder’s father, Mark Bellingham - himself a former player. Indeed, he is a legend of the English non-league game.

“I used to watch him play all the time; it’s where I started to get that love for football,” Jude told an interview with the Guardian in 2020. “I think you can see in the way I play that I’ve watched the game from a young age. That non-league style of toughness and being gritty when you need to be is reflected in my game, and I do think that comes from watching my dad play - even though he never tackled!”

Mark, 46, earned a reputation as a voracious goalscorer in the lower leagues.
His career began in 1994, nine years before Jude’s birth. His day job - he’s a police sergeant - hindered his progression as a player and he never made it beyond non-league level, but his haul of over 700 career goals make him one of the highest scorers in the history of non-professional football in England. In one season, 2005/06, he racked up 61 goals in the ninth division.

Bellingham Sr played for over a dozen teams, chiefly in the West Midlands region. He brought up his 700th goal in the 2016/17 campaign, while turning out for Paget Rangers in Midland League Division Two, the 11th tier of the English league pyramid. He had set himself the target of reaching the landmark figure the season before - but, when he fell two goals short, the by-now forty-something striker decided to extend his career by another year.

Mark’s passion for the game rubbed off not only on Jude, but also his other son, 17-year-old Jobe, who has followed in his older brother’s footsteps by emerging from the youth ranks at Birmingham City. Jobe made his senior debut for the Blues in January 2022. As Jude’s agent, Mark Bellingham’s role in the 19-year-old’s mooted summer move to Real Madrid will be crucial.

With our need for an overhaul in midfield, should we ditch this 100 mill plus project and get 2-3 players instead?
Or are two players enough.

We need three at least with Milner, Keita and Ox all leaving.

EDIT: I'm not sure about Fabinho, but none of the rest of the midfielders we have on the books should be starters by the beginning of next season. I would actually keep Milner in a player coach role if possible as I think him and Henderson set good examples of professionalism. But really we need two new starters and one more option. There is a question mark over whether Fab can recover his form; not sure whether it's too early for Badger Tits to be pushing Fabinho for a start.

One player could contribute more than Ox, Keita and Milner. We’d need another to replace Henderson. Next season should be the final season for Fabs and Thiago.

A big fat No to that idea. We've been there before, it didn't work then and it wouldn't work now, not if we are serious about continuing to compete for the big prizes. Two players aren't enough and the owners need to tweak their financial model to allow for more, but NOT at the expense of bringing top quality in.

So two players aren't enough, but we pool our money together and spend all we have on one?
Owners being cunts, caveat. Which is why i cannot fathom us not being in for out of contracts like Tielemans.

If we were in for Tielmans we wouldn’t be saying so now. We can’t sign the player until the summer even though he can talk to foreign clubs. Which is a mad rule.

No.

Because we all know the three players would be the likes of Geundozi, Joe Willock and Arthur Melo.

And then we'll spend another 50m on a left winger, just to rub salt into our own wounds.

Remember when we were in the same position regarding Virgil? It's not ideal and it may turn out not to be enough but, if we buy those lesser players instead, we know for certain from dreary experience that that will turn out to be false economy.
