Are they mad enough to waste the first 10 games on Gollum?

He's toast because the team is atrocious. If he's backed and makes the proper changes needed, they can come back up

Not at all, he can bring them back up and finally win something.

4 out of the last 16 teams to go down have come back up. There is absolutely nothing about that Sunderland side - from ownership structure, to managers, to investment, to players - that makes you believe they'll be the 5th, nevermind win a fucking trophy.

They're a complete mess from top to bottom.

They have a decent keeper. Who might be able to provide them with enough transfer funds to rebuild the squad enough to get out of the championship.

Although their finances aren't good, so the manager might not get access to that money.

With Swansea, Villa, Huddersfield, Leeds, 'boro & Sheff W/Reading (whichever doesn't come up this season) all looking strong for next season, Sunderland will do well to be anywhere near the playoff places. They've no chance with bloody Gollum at the helm

Depends how much he's got left in the tank. Moyes at his strongest would have been a good bet to take them back up before too long IMO, as that's about his level, but I wonder whether he's recovered from the debâcle at ManUre yet (or ever will).

There's fucking loads of mediocre managers who got their teams promoted to the Premiership; Hughton, Adkins, McDermott, Pardew, Warnock.

Is he that much different to any of that lot?

He might not be The Manager of this decade and he still might not have won anything, but we know he's a winner.

Gollum might get a team promoterd but that Sunderland team is lacking in quality everywhere.
They spend about 78 % of their income on wages. Mostly on mediocre players who wouldnt move to that shithole if they didnt get high wages.
They'll have to sell or give away several of these average high earners and set a change of directon with talent and youth.
If they can build a core that want to play for the club and can handle the Championship, then they've got a chance. But I doubt it. The club is in a mess.

I think they will bomb. They've got all the makings of a club slipping down the divisions. Moyes should jump ship immediately. Ditto Defoe.

Yeah, Moyes showed at Everton that he is a steady Premiership manager. Some highs, some lows, but given decent resources he probably won't get you relegated and may even get you top half, or Top 5 once in a blue moon

But Sunderland are in disarray. Which isn't anything to do with Moyes.

Of course he's now being castigated and mocked for being some kind of antediluvian disaster area by The Guardian, because he made a joke about slapping a woman

Beyond that though you do wonder whether Moyes has lost a bit of heart in recent years.
