Benitez had realised he was pointless before he was even properly fit again.
I know yeah, after spunking £18m. You'd have think he'd have noticed before that bit.

keane and aqua - 40m pissed away
if we'd taken that money and bought width (like we needed) even if the new signings were no more than competent, we'd have been better off.

Can anyone answer me on why he agreed to sign for Liverpool in the first place?
because rafa wanted someone who performed a similar role to alonso whilst plaiing higher up the pitch. his injury took longer to heal by which time we were in a crisis and so couldn't blood him into the team and when he was finally introduced, whilst showing great touches of skill and movement was an absolute PUSSY going in the other direction. wasn't trusted in the middle and then moved on by hodge podge.

I can 'kinda' see why he was signed and if he were stronger in the tackle would've established himself long before now.
I agree, but my question was about the player himself.

Why the fuck did he agree to sign? It's been pretty obvious from the moment he stepped foot on British soil that he's never wanted to be anywhere but Italy.

Aquilani's agent tells Gazzetta.it: "The agreement between Alberto + Fiorentina hasn't yet been reached."

Rubbish..

He was happy here.. He has been treated like utter shite since his move..

His agent has prob been told to look for possible clubs by Comolli/Kenny.

I dont get why people have a chip on their shoulder when it comes to Aquilani..

Latest comments seem to indicate that a deal has been agreed with Fiorentina, but Aqua hasnt agreed personal terms.
Accoring to Liverpool.no there is a rumour that Aqua wants a pay off from us as he will have to take a pay cut to join Viola.

A pay off for letting him leave to return to Italy which is clearly what he wants. What an absolute disaster of a signing.

Rumoured fee 11 mill euros. What a disaster of a signing. Hopefully he'll fuck off, so that we can move on from this circus.

From ESPN Soccernet about the rumoured pay off:
€1.5 million 'golden handshake' from Liverpool

How will we cope without the Italian Paul Scholes?
You're as bad as a tabloid journalist.

£11m
We probably still owe Roma most of that.

Has to rank up there as one of the worst signings we have made.

Thats true mate. But it will probably save us 12 mill £ in wages.

Re: Aquilani. Reports in Italy claim he has accepted to spread €8m in wages over 3 yrs instead of 2. Negotiating golden handshake with LFC

I would rather he stayed to be honest; every player deserves one full season at a football club. But, as it stands, it's no great loss.

He should pay us for wanting to leave (if that is the case).

Not a bad player by any means but this has got to be the worst bit of business since keane

Or carroll....

Does it matter if we owe it to Roma, or we've already paid them? We'll still have paid them 17m either way.
yep, the rest's just cashflow. if we get ~£10m for him i'll be pretty happy, because i never expected us to get any more than that from juventus. just as long as it's not a loan and we don't have to go through the same bollocks next summer, plus the money will hopefully mean meireles has a better chance of sticking around, which i'd much prefer.

as for worst signing ever...i think diouf still gets my vote on that one, personally.

This is a worse bit of business than Keane. By far.

I disagree strongly. Had we got the Keane signing right, or even perhaps kept him for another six months, we would have had a much greater chance of winning the league.

Aquilani has been a disaster, both for footballing and financial reasons, but his cost hasn't been as significant as the above.

What he means is that Keane was a bad buy,but that he was sold far too quickly which left us short of any real quality up front which turned our season to shit. The upside is that Rafa 'made most of his money back from this failed signing' (TM) so we only lost about 4-5 million on him.

The length of the Aquifanny debacle probably means we'll take a hit of 2x that, but his absence will be unlikely to have much impact on our performances since he's hardly played and is a pussy. It's a pity,he is a good player when he's arsed.

liverpool actually scored more goals in the 6 months after keane left then the six he was here.

We probably scored more goals in the second half of every season under Rafa. It was very little to do with Keane that that ended up being the case.

There were times though when we struggled to score goals and Rafa wouldn't put him in. That said it was a bad signing because we already had a great partnership upfront so spunking £20m was unjustified and would have been better spent on a winger. I'm just glad now we didn't sign Barry aswell.

Latest rumours from Italy is that the deal is close. A loan fee of 1 mill euros and if Fiorentina want to make the deal permanent they have to pay 10 mill euros next summer.
We wont pay Aqua anything, and he'll earn less money over there.

IF this is true, we're going to have the same ridiculous scenario next season aswell. If they cant afford 11 now, why should they have the money to pay 10 next season. They're not good enough to get CL qual either.

I think he has really forced our hand here with his desire to move back to Italy.
