The FA has charged the West Bromwich Albion player Nicolas Anelka following an incident that occurred during the West Ham United versus West Bromwich Albion fixture at the Boleyn Ground on 28 December 2013.

It is alleged that, in the 40th minute of the fixture, Anelka made a gesture which was abusive and/or indecent and/or insulting and/or improper, contrary to FA Rule E3[1].

It is further alleged that this is an aggravated breach, as defined in FA Rule E3[2], in that it included a reference to ethnic origin and/or race and/or religion or belief.

Anelka has until 6pm on 23 January 2014 to respond to the charge.

Maybe I'm naïve to the cultural implications or what exactly this gesture means, but this seems ridiculous to me?

I'm torn on it tbh - the man who started it is a filthy, disgusting anti-semite and an open holocaust denier ... It's basically a 'reverse' sieg heil, and pictures of it float around the world around Auschwitz, synagogues, the school in Toulouse where Meron killed a few Jewish children etc ... Can it mean anti-establishment? Probably. Is it making a massive deal and giving this twat even more attention than he already has? Yup, and that only means more of these idiots.

Ah, I didn't realise it was anti-sematic, I just assumed it was anti establishment. I don't imagine Anelka was trying to be anti-sematic by using it, but who knows.

The FA like to write and/or dont they? Covering all bases.
Stupid thing to do by Anelka and he'll get 8 games I reckon.

Well, I'm not familiar with the technical aspects of the rule. In principle it looks like a similar (or almost identical) case

I think that's a great way to approach life.
Fuck you I don't care about subtleties, I want what I want.

If it's the first time the rule has been used, then there can't be a precedent.

Anyway I think the length of the ban is usually proportionate to the amount of noise the offended interest group is likely to make.

@Rosco you miss my point.
I'm no lawyer and we're not in court (I think I mentioned it to you on the other thread 😉).

I'm just saying that it makes sense to me that since Anelka is charged of making "a gesture which was abusive and/or indecent and/or insulting and/or improper ... that it included a reference to ethnic origin and/or race and/or religion or belief." which is pretty similar to what Suarez was charged and got punished for, then the penalty should be about the same.

I'm not trying to win a legal battle here, nor am I arguing with you. I'm simply pointing at something which looks sensible to me.
I'm sure that you are correct as far as the law is concerned.
And BTW, unfortunately sometimes the verdicts and punishments by courts do not make sense to me, although I'm pretty sure they are legal.

Bottom line - I hope Anelka gets a severe punishment for what he did. This way he may also miss their game against us which cannot be a bad thing...

There's gonna be young kids running around on saturday afternoons, after scoring goals, quinnelling.
500 game ban please.

There's loads of it on Masterchef as well. If it means that Gregg Wallace bloke is knocked brutally to the ground by the police and marched off to court it will have served some kind of purpose.

ANELKA. Euro Jewish Congress: FA "must send a v strong message" offenses against Jews treated in same way as those any "any other minority"

When they start physically attacking gingers for being gingers there will probably be a Ginger UK Confederation
