Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Joe Allen is expected to undergo a shoulder operation in the next week.
The midfielder was named as a substitute for Sunday's game against Tottenham but before kick-off at Anfield it was revealed the £15million man has been carrying an injury for almost five months.
Allen, who has struggled to find top form since following Rodgers from Swansea City last summer, will now have surgery in an attempt to cure the long-standing problem.
Rodgers told Sky Sports: "We made a change today, because Joe Allen has been struggling from around about the end of October with his shoulder and that has got worse.
"He will probably need an operation in the next week or so."

I don't really see why he went on at all today, rather than Hendo and one other, seeing as he wasn't even fit, but we won, so great.

Rodgers said in the post match interview that he felt we had lost control of the match because Suarez and Sturridge were both playing too high, therefore we lost a man in midfield and control of the centre. He bought Allen on to get that control back.

He was highlighting this because he felt we won the game as a result of this change, but really it was down to Spurs imploding.

We had lost control of the game, and we did need an extra midfielder though.

It was both. We probably would have conceded another without the change and maybe wouldn't have been able to put enough pressure on for them to make the mistakes.

Agreed, it resulted in us taking control of the game and looking more balanced.
Good performance by Allen.

He played well but he isn't fooling me. After Rodgers announced his injury he took the chance to get stuck in for the sole purpose of looking like some sort of hero putting his body on the line. Fuck him. It was quite a clever plan though.

Yeah, I was going to ask if he even knew himself what he was talking about. But I cant be bothered.
Allen had a good game and looks like he has gotten some form and confidence back.
Hopefully he'll be back soon.
