I would like all these people to die, I just don't think I could step up to the plate and do it myself. Maybe I could. I just don't think I could. Oncy, unless I'm not mistaken you're not an actual vigilante. So how do you know you could slit somebody's throat?

Okay wishing death upon someone is one thing, wishing torture is something else.

I would carve Venables, Thompson and Mercer up without blinking.

Did you feel that way when it first happened?
[/quote]

I was completely numb when I first heard the news breaking about Jamie's killers. Afterwards, I just wanted them to hurt, even more than little Jamie had.

I cried almost every time I saw the video of him being led away. I still do sometimes, & I work right by the Strand so occasionally pass that shop, each & every time my heart wrenches & my stomach turns. As Andy says, if you read & see those things you feel so hurt & then you imagine how their family feel. How that doesnt make anyone want to make them feel pain is beyond me.

I've obviously never been faced with such circumstances personally, not to that degree, but if it were my family I'm positive it would be my reaction, only stronger. That probably makes me a bad person, but so be it. Again, like Andy, it's completely at odds with my otherwise quite left wing views. Though the dad bit is making those views a little more right wing!

I've had described to me what those 'scrawny ten year old boys' did to that poor defenceless toddler (there you go, tears again) & I can tell you what they would have had done to them would have seemed merciful in comparison.

Venables and Thompson are the same age as me. I vaguely remember the incident when it happened, but not the details, I learnt them later when I was older. As at the time I when it would come on the news, my parents wouldn't let us watch it.

My parents deemed that story to be too damaging for my eyes and ears as a ten year old child, so I went off to play with my dolls or whatever I done as a ten year old, yet these two boys, the same age as me could have the thoughts and ideas to commit these horrific acts. I can't get my head around that.

Aren't there some discrepancies with all the details? Mrs Bulger said on that documentary last week she wasn't sure of all the details. Obviously every version is horrific still, there's no escaping that.

The details I know have been repeated & described to me by my mum who has been on a course in Liverpool about child abuse. Most medical staff go on similar courses in the city & the same material is often used, it includes case notes & photos. Nessy on here may well have seen the material.

The vast majority of it wasnt released to the press & God only knows how much his parents were told. Some sketchy details are commonly known by word of mouth & have appeared on an e-mail about the case.

I will read it Livvy, but not now cos I won't be able to sleep if I do.

When I hear/read about Jamie Bulger, or read about the massacre in Rwanda or those on their way to work on 7/7 or 9/11 or think about innocent prisoner locked up in Guantanamo without trial, a sadness sets in my heart, I feel a lump in my throat and tears well up in my eyes, which is happening as a write this post. Injustice hurts, but I just cannot see how my embodying the very acts I vilify and despise can ever be a source of comfort or justice. It would only succeed in putting me in the same bracket as those who cause the feelings of dread and disbelief in us all.
