Adama on Eve of Liverpool Move?

We need a powerful dribbler, goals is not our problem if any of you have noticed.

Lol, so despite having a couple of players who're capable why do we need a player who can only run and dribble so much? Surely the priority is a CM given Milners last year and Ox is average at best, both of who contribute to the homegrown quota. Or as have others have suggested we could go and get the pacy Sarr who looks to have a higher ceiling, or Raphina who's obviously miles ahead, if wanting for this position so badly. There's a reason Wolves wouldn't be arsed if he went.

There's probably some truth in that.

However his pass selection and ability to execute leave ALOT to be desired.

That’s exactly keni’s point, I think - teammates know he won’t be able to find them with the pass, so they are not making as many runs when he’s on the ball.

It might become a problem if we take out one of our free-scoring forwards and replace him with one that doesn’t score or create much... but dribbles a lot.

I don’t see how that improves us.

I feel like he’s the sort of player Everton would sign, only for Rafa to play him as a left back.

It’s not about having a permanent starting 11. And would a like for like replacement of a Salah come at the same cost as what Traore is rumored to be at? We should be looking at him as an attacking option against specific teams rather than someone that’s going to permanently replace our established forwards.
If Klopp really is interested he must have some idea about being able to teach him to pass a ball at least to an average footballer level.

This is what I don’t get.

The players Klopp tends to go for, there tends to be some underlying statistical evidence that they’re under valued or an outlier or at least some component of their game that makes them stand out.

You can see it in pretty much everyone we’ve signed under Klopp. The only one that stick out like a sore thumb was Robbo, who no one expected to go from the unheard of Bradford LB to the best LB in the world - but even then, I think they just nailed something down in statsxthat they saw and liked.

But Traoré - he’s just really fast and really strong. There no outlying goal or creative stats... he looks like he’d have trouble crossing the road let alone pick out Mane at the back post over 2 CB’s twice his height.

There’s no outrageous passing ability or flexibility to play in a pile of different positions.

Now... I’m not totally opposed to signing the guy as a squad player, My expectations would be that he’d offer something more than Minamino.

However - if we’re short on cash - I think it’s £20m that could be best spent elsewhere.

When does transfer window open ? Cant wait till he joins us.

There’s no way we play Traore, Salah & Trent at the same time unless Salah is through the centre.

Save the money for someone with a better end product and who can play in more than one position.
What If we are playing Gomez instead of Trent?

Watch the City V Wolves game, and it strikes me that the problem Wolves have with the effectiveness of Traore is that he is too often played so far forward that their attackers fail to reach him giving him no passing option.

We, Liverpool, often have Salah, Mane or both high up the pitch witch would afford him that option quicker

I thought you were done with this one?

Why would we be playing Gomez instead of Trent?

Where’s Traoré playing if Salah & Mane are on the pitch? Are you disregarding Jota?

I watched the City v Wolves game too - Traoré was awful.

Sorry - but this shite that he plays so far forward that none of his teammates can get close enough fir him to pass to, is exactly what it is... utter shite.

You’re either pushing him forward to play off the shoulder of the last defender or dropping him deeper to run at people - either way he’s producing fuck all.

To be fair, he is consistent in his lack of producing anything.

Klopp and his team would make him a far better player.

You could arguably say the same of every single player on the planet - but that’s not the point - it’s whether him being “better” makes us better.

So the question is - which one of our current attacking players - Salah, Mane, Jota, Firmino, Origi, Minamino or Ox - is he going to offer more in the way of end product, creativity or flexibility of role?

Is he the sort of player that would adapt to mainly coming off the bench or does he need regular games?

And the single most important question - are their other players who would better suit that it would be better to save our money for?

Injury, or as we did the other night against Milan Subbed Gomez for Neco
May chose to rest Jota or again Injury
The City game Traore hardly had the ball, does not mean he was awful

Seriously?

Where do I start? Should I even bother?

Ok... I’ll concede, in the event that half the team are either being rested because we’re playing in a game that has no significance to us at all or an asteroid has hit Anfield and taken out 4 or 5 of the forward line... the yes, Traoré may be worth having to chuck on.

Ideally we should then ensure he doesn’t see the ball very much, so that he can’t be awful.

Can we not just buy someone with a more consistent and better end product rather than cross our fingers that Traoré mysteriously finds hitherto unheard of scoring and accurate crossing skills or relies on the rest of our forwards to make him look good.

There are other, better players - Raphinha & Sarr for starters - both of whom have scored 5 Premier League goals this season in 10 and 12 games respectively - whereas Traoré has scored 7 in his entire career of over 150 Premier League games.

I doubt the data analysts that clubs employ simply look at the two bits of data you’re basing all your argument on (goals and assists). What does he bring to the team when he receives the ball in his own half with 3 players on his back? What happens when he’s in a tight spot? With his sprinting speed, when we’re defending can he be sitting deeper in our half, giving us better shape, but easily be integrated into counter attacks? Etc etc.
Arguments here are going from one extreme to the other. Either he’s shit or he’s special. He’s in between. Not good with his passes and shooting, but has monstrous pace, power and footwork. Would his assets benefit the team if Mane or Salah is rested? I certainly think so, particularly with the likelihood that age will mean Mane in particular will be rested a little more frequently in the coming seasons. I’d rather him than Ox or Minamino in that position.

We are after him apparently, but think we're more seriously interested in Bowen - but any move for the latter would be at the end of the season.

Well at least 3 will be missing for the AFCON, with no guarantee that all will return uninjured or that there in not be any travel restrictions in place that will extented the period that we are without them... Big enough asteriod..??

I’m certain there are other metric - but the ability to score or create goals is still kinda important.

Crikey - look at abuse Bobby gets for not scoring enough - just remember, in his worst season - he still managed to score more goals than Traoré in his entire Premier League career.

I’m sure dribbling lots to is a super exciting stat along with being really fast.

Look at our forward line - they all have superb goal- scoring and assist stats - because we don’t get many goals from other areas.

Also, that’s not a pretty high bar - being better than Ox or Minamino in the forward line (although I’d argue both are more flexible and adaptable to other positions).

Like I said - I think there are better options - we’ve done that thing many’s a time where we’ve bought someone because they’re cheap or because we think they might suddenly explode and do things they’ve never done before.

I’m certain there are other metric
Watching Traore yesterday, his best asset seems to be getting yellow cards for the opposition. If his twat teammate hadnt got himself sent off. I am confident he would have got one of the City players a red. But that tactic only works if your team is playing deep and trying to catch the opposition on the counter, and as a metric for measuring an attacker its not the greatest

This is the other thing about Traoré - surely he’d be a good fit for a counterattacking team - which we are absolutely not.
