I'm not really on board with the whole "if the manager wants him that's good enough" argument or the one where "you have to back the managers judgement". Managers are very much fallible in the transfer market and no matter how good things seem, a big mistake is always around the corner (*).

I don't think I'll ever get over Rafa's pursuit of Barry for the LW (though he was saved from himself on that front it ultimately proved to be a case of out of the frying pan and into the fire unfortunately for us).

* I'm making more of a general point rather than something specifically aimed at Rodgers pursuit of Lallana.

I hope the next player we're linked with is Lee Cattermole for £15 million. Like to see everyone doing their best to justify that fee as well.

Rodgers record in the market is average, and I also want to know what's going on withe the academy. No man should run the whole show unless he's a messiah

If you look at certain transfers in isolation you could say his record is average but its about the team and the squad you build right?
And he built a squad up from 9th (and not far from Konchesky, Jovanovic, Poulsen, Cole, Downing, Carroll) to challenging last day of the season for the title.
For me that justifies the faith.

I know oncy, there's definite successes. The bad buys have all been cheapish. No glaring errors. It's just Ilori, Alberto were odd signings. Oousadi as well. Borini is not up to the grade but is a good squaddy. Allen as well. Aspas quite odd as well

Most managers have a mixed record, and I have some faith but not unlimited trust!

Stop being a moron Modo.

Please always quote him - that way my Ignore Function works perfectly and I can continue to post in a state of higher cosmic consciousness without being drawn back down to this mortal coil by Modo's bleatings. Thank you kind sir.

Liverpool could be preparing a £10million swoop for Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole who has been shocked to discover John O'Shea has been handed the captain's armband.
The Black Cats manager Steve Bruce has made the decision to hand O'Shea the armband just days after completing his switch from Manchester United, opening the door for Kenny Dalglish to make another raid on the Stadium of Light.
Bruce could point to Cattermole's woeful disciplinary record last term which pick up ten yellow cards and two red cards whereas O'Shea wasn't cautioned or shown a red card at all last year.

Midfield tussle: Cattermole has been unsettled by the arrival of O'Shea
Sunderland have also bolstered the midfield this summer with Craig Gardner, David Vaughan, Sebastian Larsson and David Meyler all coming into challenge Cattermole's position at the heart of the team.
He could be reunited Jordan Henderson, who left Wearside to join the Reds last month.
Meanwhile, Liverpool owner John Henry has given misfits Alberto Aquilani and David Ngog hope of extending their Anfield careers.

Captain's job: O'Shea has walked into Sunderland and immediately been handed the armband
Henry has been impressed by the pair while the club have been on a pre-season tour in Asia.
'One missing link last year: Acquilani (sic),' Henry wrote on Twitter. 'Put the ball near Ngog and the goal and it's going in. Too much talk of them somewhere else.'
