Mirror says Rodgers believes Lallana, Lovren and Lambert will be in the squad to face Southampton, but fears it may drag on.

If it drags on much longer with Lallana, I'm joining the @Modo camp and pushing for shaqiri /sanchez

Will those three take us to the next level or just add more depth to the squad ?

another question , if we sign him for 25m how patient do we have to be ? For that money should he not be pretty fucking good after a few weeks ? Can a super fan please educate me .

Yep, if he doesn't have the ballon d'or sown up by September, he'll have been a massive waste of time.

Only kidding, from experience we know that SCM will be patient with him and give him the time it takes to adapt to a new team and a new way of playing. There's no way anyone on here would go early and call him shite after 1 or 2 bad performances.

shit stirring aside , i've only seen this lad a few times and while he looks skillful and a "footballer" the performances i've seen haven't been anything to write home about . if we do sign him i will be hoping for alot more .
So while it's not his fault we may pay 25m+ to get him , someone has to have considered if he can handle that pressure and expectation because rightly or wrongly it will be there from minute one .

I'm still curious where Rodgers will use him, will he play the opposite side to Henderson (Allens current role) the tip of the diamond, or out wide in a three?

All 3 as and when required, I'd expect.

For the sake of simplicity; Left in a diamond, left midfield in a 4-3-3, left midfield in a 4-4-2.

BUT...

Numbered formations like I just outlined above are only useful if players stand still for 90 minutes, and for the internet. That doesn't happen though, players run around, good players actually run around in different positions from the ones dram on a board too, incredible I know.

So he'll fucking roam everywhere, just like good players do, and just like he should.

I agree, especially with all the important games we've got coming up in the next 8 weeks.
I'm concerned about it dragging on because other decent targets might move.

I really like Lallana, but I don't want us to be put over a barrel with the fee, then backed in to a corner where we need a player like him, so we pay stupid money, and cheaper viable alternatives are gone.

Exactly

In the last 24 odd months, we've passed up on just about every major target we've had because of a refusal to pay over the odds or be "put over a barrel with the fee".

Just by the by.

I think it's far too much for him. I'm uneasy about the fee and think we should walk away. We were always going to overpay for him, but anything upwards of 25m is too much.

And this is different to when we lost out on Dani Alves or whoever else over 2m. Lallana is a good player, and rightfully a target, but for the money we're talking, and the risk the deal represents, it's not worth it.

As much as I hate to say it, I'm leading towards the Modo side of the fence and think that there must be someone else out there who would represent better value for money (not Sanchez or anyone like that due to wages) than this deal.

Firmino?
May be BR wants Lovren and Lallana to add to the Lambert acquisition, as the sum of the parts could add more value than what on paper could be a greater buy (ie Sanchez or Lazar). If was to happen then I would probably like to see Broni, Assaidi, Agger and Suso on loan go the other way. This would reduce the cash loss from the acquisitions.

People make mistakes, though, and Rodgers can make mistakes in the transfer market. £30m more or less on one player is not to us what it is to the likes of Chelsea and City. We need to ensure that every signing we make for that kind of money represents the lowest element of risk possible, and value for money. Not to dig up this argument again because Lallana is clearly better than Carroll and Downing, but that was the same rationale used when we were signing both of them.

I haven't seen Firmino play, but his stats look very promising, but stats are stats. I think Lambert, Lovren and Lallana are all very good players, and would definitely have them here, but that's not to say we should pay any price for them. We have to be sensible.

I would rather see Firmino but if Rodgers believes that Lallana is worth a punt at, I'll trust his judgement. Carroll, Downing, Adam were all Camolli's mistake and he got the chop for those mistakes.

The only problem anyone can have with this transfer is his value coz obviously he is an excellent player. Yeah 25million is a lot of money but Lallana is very good. I do think that is too much for him but i'm not going to split hairs and argue the toss over a price tag I'm not even privy to.

All I know is that he is a player will we enjoy watching. He 'gets' football and he's the kind of player I personally like anyway. He takes care of the ball, he roams into different positions, he has beautiful balance etc. He was in the team of the season last year and deservedly so.

Well what are you waiting for? You'd better get on to the board quick and let them know. I'm sure they'd appreciate the heads-up.
