The club have no option - suspend on full pay until found guilty/innocent.

It's probably something along the lines of : 'drunken footballer meets under-age girl purporting to be 18 in a night club for 18+s and has one-night stand whilst shit-hot wife is away. Girl doesn't like being dumped after one night so goes to the police/media to make a few quid'

All supposition so we'l have to wait and see.

I don't think hitting a DJ for not playing Phil Collins and sleeping with a girl under the age if 16 are the same thing.

The clubs stance is irrelevant, and being arrested doesn't mean you're guilty. If he gets proven innocent in court, I bet this will still follow him around for the rest of his career.
 
Yea but he's 27.. He shouldn't really be messing around with a 16 year old anyway.
It's a pretty weak best case scenario for him.

In his garage?!

Now that's a bit fucking weird. It's difficult to argue you had consensual sex with someone you thought was 18/19, but did it in your garage. Even more so when you have access to the kind of money he does, which means an apartment or hotel would be easily available.

Ha. I'm not famous so no money grabbing skeletons will be coming out of my closet.

Like I said, I doubt anyone on here (unless they have only had one partner their entire life, on never gone on the pull, either of which is weird) can guarantee the ages of the girls they pulled.

The fact he's 27 doesn't look great though, unless the girl genuinely looks 19 or older he's got fuck all in the way of defence. The only way we'll likely find out is if she sells her story to the papers, as I assume she'll be protected otherwise.

Most footballers have the mental age of a 19 year old anyway, they don't ever really get the chance to grow up.

Let's put it another way then, 99.9% of clubs would do the same thing, their reputation stands above that of a player accused of a sex crime.

As for the 'child' bit. Was she 15 yrs and 364 days old at the time of the 'alleged' (you love to use that word so I wonder why you aren't now) sex act ? Or even 15 & 180 days ? Because you do wonder at the abhorrence of the public crying out 'child' when 1 day or 180 days later it's perfectly legal would barely make an inside column of the Mail. A 'child' doesn't mentally mature that rapidly !

How about they make the punishment relative to the amount of days under the age of 16 they are? One ball off for each day.
 
The dividing lines in such cases will inevitably be artificial to some degree, but they have to be there for the law to be able to define the offence. The problem you rightly identify isn't really to do with them. It's to do with a kneejerking public and with the media who pander to it.
