Spurs are offering big money (30m odd) for Benzema. They're also in for Gary Cahill.

I haven't seen either linked in the press but it's clear they'll have some money to spend.

Cahill is deffo off somewhere for *big* money

Spurs have some very good CBs, but King's a crock, so maybe...

That said, every top 6 (or 7) club probably needs a new CB or two

Remember the stick people gave them about lacking ambition when they sold Keane and Berbatov at ridiculous prices ?

Best bit of business that club ever did.

A bit of business that they didn't want to do, certainly in the case of Keane

Or let me guess, you're now going to position fucking *Spurs* as the sort of club model we should be following, after your recent Lyon fixation

Not really, they are very hit and miss - but you should always sell a player when you're offered more than he's worth. They made a massive fuck up by taking Keane back.

for all the money man city spent, and even with the depth of squad spurs now possess I still think we would have taken 4th at an absolute CANTER had alonso been in the sqaud.

we've had our worst season in a decade and despite that we are 8 points of 4th place. 3 wins.

Yeah, as a general rule that's obviously sound advice, but it isn't the only factor is it?

And in the past, Liverpool have done (or tried to do) exactly that. We have a history of selling players that could easily have played on (again, not considering all the factors, like wanting to leave):

Beardsley, Case, Aldo, Rush, Souness, McMahon, Keegan, Warnock, the list is extensive

Equally, we have also kept players for far too long.

It's the most difficult part of management to get it right, and divorcing emotion from realism

Ferguon and Wenger do it best, and even they get it wrong sometimes

Except if its name is Keane, apparently.

Come on Neil, make an argument for Xabi being our best player.

Fine player though he certainly was, Alonso wasn't "our best". No disrespect to cabbages.
he was last season

last season I class our best players as
pepe
alonso
torres
gerrard

and last season alonso was the pick of the above

Righty-ho. Presumably you'll say Masher's our best player this season, given that he's going to win Morse's poll in a canter.
no that would be pepe. pepe has been the best player by a country mile, masher doesn't even come close because he was all over the place at the start of the season.

we're getting into semantics here. okay to stop the arguement, alonos was ONE of our best players. there, that better?

Not really, they are very hit and miss - but you should always sell a player when you're offered more than he's worth. They made a massive fuck up by taking Keane back.
*Genuine question*

What transfer fee's would you sell Torres, Stevie and Mascher for?
Well the fee in the press for Torres is 70m, if we were offered that I'd take it.

Mascherano - 35m

Stevie - 30m

I'd like a little bit more for Torres, but other than that i tend to agree (given our current situation anyway).

*If of course it was a given that it would all be reinvested in the team*
