Is there actually any such thing?
I was watching Question Time a couple of weeks back and they had this segment on Jeremy Clarkson who said something about Public Sector workers should be taken outside and shot for wanting to go on strike, the panel were up in arms about it, when it was clearly a joke. It scares me that we're becoming the kind of country that won't allow for jokes like that.
There have been people camped outside the House of Commons for nearly ten years by way of protest against the war in Iraq, and of course more recently the protesters outside St Pauls cathedral. The Government is now looking at tightening up laws around protesting and strikes, apparently there's too much of that going on.
Does this shift worry anyone else?
I think one of the things in the past that has been Great about Britain is the fact that you can say whatever you want and you always have the right to challenge the Government or whatever the given status quo is, is it being taken away from us bit by bit, without us even realising?
We have freedom of speech and expression, until we say something that people don't like, then we must shut up?
