"Now we have to look to improve the squad and it's always great if you can get marquee players to come in and help you. The owners will support that.

Woohoo! We'll have Messi, Zlatan, Neuer, Silva, Pogba and maybe even Suarez back to prop us up!!

In all reality, wtf is Brendan on about? I'm sure a couple of weeks ago he was blabbering about having to buy youth players? Now he's saying FSG want marquee players?

Unless he's on about only bringing in 1 or 2 at 30mill a throw this summer, then we'll breach FFP.

*edit*

And don't forget Reus too to keep some people happy.

Perhaps shirt sales are down with no real world class superstar on the team. First time in years we've not had a truly exceptional player

Last summer after finishing second, playing great football and with £100 million to spend was the time for marquee players and pushing the wage cap to sign top class target.

This is it..

that 'marquee player' I think is always worth throwing the extra dollar in for..

Other than Coutinho and with Gerrard gone we have no players that will sell shirts like hot cakes..

We will probably sign players llike Walcott, Milner & Memphis as our Marquee signings..

Memphis would be a shirt seller.. simply because his name is well cool.. you could imagine shirt sales doing well in the US for him...

It'd be depay on the shirt though wouldn't it?

No matter who buys him, if the song isn't "walking in memphis" I'm done with football

Our number 7 shirt is free too.. he would be huge for shirt sales..

It's more Rafa-esque game playing. He says what he wants, then he says, '“The owners will support that. If they are attainable, and affordable within the model, the club will do everything they can to get them.” Meaning: they won't get them so don't blame me.

He's got two. Memphis, Tennessee and Back To Memphis.

There is also Jerry Lee Lewis - Memphis Beat

How do we make money when New Balance sell a shirt to a sports shop, and then that sports shop sells it to some Scando?

I presume we only make profits on shirts we sell in our own shops, based on a profit margin above what New Balance sells it to us for.

I quite like music, I just don't understand why people take it so seriously. So the real buffs tend to put me off a bit really.

Yeah there is a lot of shite that goes around. Its the same as wine, coffee and chocolate connoisseurs - or as I like to call them - knob heads.

Tried to find an answer... found this..

Liverpool control all non-branded merchandising – products outside the usual kit range – and are free to open club stores wherever they choose. They also make a profit on kit sold within club stores..

And if 800,000 are sold worldwide, how many are sold by the LFC shop?

And what's the net profit on a jersey?

Whatever the answer is it never justifies the signing of a player. TV rights and sponsorship deals can though

Ive no idea.. however merchandising alone can bring in substantial figures..

Take Madrid for example with Beckham.. the amount of money they made from merchandising alone in respect of Beckham was quite decent..

Again Madrid bought Bale with similar ideas in mind....

Great players Market your Brand and therefore make the club money...

They also help to attract bigger and better sponsors for your club...

None of that is true.

They made their money selling TV rights (which they, rthater than the league have control over)

We've outsold them in jerseys recently, and can't buy 80m players. For good reason.
