Take Sunderland as an example. 11th in the PL but they would be 5th in Spain, 3rd in France, 4th in Germany and 6th in Italy.

Looks like the league tables tend to match the league finishing in general anyway. We'd need to have another 150m worth of players in our squad to truly expect a title challenge. Where we're at now, we can only hope for a fluke.
Depends how well those other clubs spend their money. In general they haven't done it well. Utd right now are almost laughably bad at it.

It remains to be seen that we have done any better. A lot of people thought we had a good window last summer, hindsight is different.
Fair point, but I feel there were a lot more question marks around our signings last summer, this summer most can be completely justified.
Our biggest problem seem to be the lack of a clear transfer strategy.
The team, set up, squad and manager seem to be going in in every direction.
Since Rodgers was appointed in 2012 we've shipped out either permanently or on loan 13 of the 24 players he (we) has bought. Thats insane. Loads of money wasted and its mind boggeling that our owners dont react.
Of course we can compete. We're just acting like amateurs.
If we had a different set up. A clear plan of we're we wanted to go in terms of player profiles and tactics and Dof to get the best possible players/deals. Then we'd be in a much better state and competing at the top wouldnt be an issue.

I dont think anybody would argue that we have wasted more money virtually any club world football over the last 10 years in terms of what we have achieved for the money thats been spent. Its frightening to think our squad cost more than Bayerns, we have a long history of vastly overpaying for mediocre players. We seem to just buy players for the sake of it even though they are no better than what we already have, then we end up with tons of useless players sitting on the bench or out on loan and we have to sell them at a massive loss. Its hugely expensive but completely unproductive policy, FSG seem to be wedded to the idea of buying in bulk and playing the percentages that some of them will be polished into gems like those people who buy the contents of a storage lock up without being able to look inside.
