6 year report card

We barely really challenged for the title for almost 30 years before he arrived. We had won nothing other than one league cup in about 10 years before he arrived.

Since he joined (his first half season aside) we have been in the top 4 consistently, we have come runners up once, won the league once, won one CL and got to another final.

I’d say his transfer record has generally been a lot better than other recent Liverpool managers. I don’t recall many expensive clangers.

And although it’s hard to quantify, he has made it fun to be a Liverpool fan again! Remember how bloody miserable it was under Hodgson or Souness and at times under Evans, Rodgers, Houllier and Benitez. I would love to know what that lot would score under this grading system!

I agree that he is up there with our best managers though.
Even his second place was 98 points. 98!

I haven't always agreed with Klopp, but with what he has had to deal with (owners0 and being hamstringed by them when it comes to money and the transfer market for me it has to be AAA+ allday long

😀 wow strong response.

You boys must all be straight A students. I would left out my own assessment if I thought it would get that much of a reaction.

Klopp came in as one of the most highly regarded managers in world football. I was made up we got him. Maybe I was in the minority but I expected a league title.
Perhaps an A- 😀
He has lost a CL final, a EL final and a league cup!

If he leaves in 2024 and doesn’t add to his trophy will he still be an A+ for everyone?

With the Newcastle news it’s going to be even tougher now to challenge for the best player and the big trophies.

With a bit more luck we could easily have had 2 CL and 2 league titles.

Our net spend (not including agent fees) for the summer window was +7m. We added 1 player, and lost 2 first teamers. Seriously, how many fans have us winning it this year? Do you honestly think we can compete continually when our net spend is £20m and our rivals are £70- £100m? A maths genius would have problem doing a maths test, if all you give him/her is a 1 inch pencil with the lead brocken and no sharpener.

I'm on vacation at the moment and I haven't really been arsed with football for the past week.
Just saw this thread and thought, "fucking hell".

Dreamy, we've had 7 managers since we last won the league in 1989. That massive weight that players like Macca, Fowler, Redknapp, Gerrard, Carra etc were carrying, was finally lifted off their shoulders about four years into Klopp's reign. All of them were in tears, despite having retired several years ago.

You say 6 years. Look at the team he inherited and look at the team he has now. How many player are left? Can you see the amount of rebuilding he's had to do in order to compete with the likes of City?

In my eyes Klopp is probably the best thing to ever happen to Liverpool since Shankly.

"A" fucking plus plus.

Edit: It's actually 8 managers since 1989, but I didn't count Klopp because he won it.

Don't bite dude, this is fucking stupid.

Which was of course totally unexpected. I sometimes wonder if he's deliberately being contoversial because he believes it lends him sort of kudos, or if he really does believe that Klopp hasn't really met expectations. Either way, it's fucking stupid.

@Dreambeliever If you want to do a report card, do it on FSG.
Pros
Got Klopp in
Spent big up until winning the CL
Key players retained
Small debt to revenue ratio
Expanded and modernised stadium
Built the state of the art training facility
Hugely boosted revenue to a point where the club was something like £50m off Man Utd revenue

Cons
LFC is a business to them
As with other American Owners top 4 is sufficient
Furlough
Trying to trademark Liverpool
Paying out large on agent fees
Paying out little on transfer fees.

I would say their grade has dropped in the last 2 years.

You always roll out this line and it’s completely off the mark. He’s done exceptional well. I personally expected a little more hence B+. It’s hardly a fucking terrible rating.

That’s a tough one. COVID has masked a lot for them. Also coloured by the previous American owners.

I'm honestly not sure what point you're trying to make
That was tongue in cheek, he’s done incredible well to build the team he has but after what I saw at Dortmund I fully expected it. It was no surprise at all. It always felt as if it was when not if with Klopp but I 100% think we could and should have won more. As I said he’ll go down as one of our greatest ever managers. It’s not like I’m dismissing him here.

I wouldn’t disagree. Maybe my expectations are higher than everyone else. I would argue Paisley would be no 3 and probably Kenny no 3 then Klopp.

In the Premier League era:

Klopp A+
Rodgers C
Dalglish (2.0) B
Hodgson D
Benitez A-
Houllier B+
Souness B

Dreamy ungraded

Given where he started with us what more should he have won?

Ok I'll bite.

How can you expect more, when you look at our net spend compared to our rivals?

Your logic is flawed.

Klopp A+
FSG B+

There fixed for you.

What did Souness do to be placed ahead of Rodgers? And why did you grade Kenny’s second stint so high? League Cup?

While I don’t necessarily agree with the ratings - Souness did at least win something, unlike Rodgers.

Besides - could have been worse - poor Uncle Roy got missed out completely...

Yea Souness and Kenny won trophies, so ahead of those that didn't.

Oh bugger I did forget Evans. He won the league cup too. Have a B uncle roy.

Rodgers deserves more than a C. He might not have won any trophies but the football we played in the Spring of the title challenge was among the best seen at Anfield. He was also the closest we got to the title pre-Klopp.

Fair point. Trophies aren't the only criteria but I do think the most important one.

I could stretch to a B- but I can't help thinking Rodgers oversaw an exodus of our best players. And the title challenge was more to do with a bitey Uruguayan (who he inherited).
