I get irritated at Klopp's unwillingness to use subs too, but part of me wonders if it is because he uses them sparingly because he only had three.

Maybe if he had five he would be more willing to throw two youngsters on knowing he still has three more if things go bad.

I am pretty sure he has has said that he likes to keep one up until the ninetieth minute in case of injury.
Probably most managers would be of a similar mindset unless forced to do otherwise.
