1/3 Missing pieces in the puzzle - Wingers

In hindsight, I'm glad we didn't dole out crazy money for Ashley Young. He would have improved the side by leaps and bounds no doubt, but I think he has limited talent. If we have a chance to go and get someone like Hazard in the summer, the 6 months wait for a winger would be well worth it.
 
I wouldn't mind Young and I think we can get him at a more affordable fee in the summer.
 
Besides Hazard and Young, who are the other viable options? I'm not too confident on the former's interest in moving over here, given the apparent interests from other clubs.
 
other options: been suggested recently that kenny was keen on downing, and we were linked with nzogbia over january.

mata could be a more exciting alternative as well, and that alexis sanchez kid's always been talked up. also, a couple of french-based players were linked earlier, such as payet and gervinho.
 
obviously it would be great to go for the best possible talent in wide areas but someone COMPETENT at taking the ball down the wing and crossing would improve us. look at reira for instance who was slow and lazy but was part of the team that push manu close for the title.

what would you think of downing then, if it's true kenny's interested? he's competent, and delivers a good cross.

if kenny thinks he can do the job then bring it on. if the team we really need to change up our wide areas because it's pointless having the likes of kuyt and maxi on the flanks and carrol as the forward. we need to maximise our strike force.

I'd take young in a heart beat.
has pace
can cross
excellent on the counter attack

I'd definately take that right now.
 
I'd cry if we got Downing. He's 27 slow and very average. Saying he'd been an improvement on our Kuyt/Maxi is like saying Lucas is an improvement on Poulsen.

The only available wingers worth considering from the PL are Young and N'zogbia and while both would be represent a significant upgrade, they're not particularly brilliant.

There are a host of talented young wingers across Europe, all of whom have more potential than N'zogbia, and one or two of whom will certainly be the next Messi/Ronaldo.

Players like Turan, Costa, Mata, Hazard, Marin, Payet, Elia, de Federico, Biabiany, Gervinho, Capel etc. Take your pick.

My top 3 choices for the summer are Costa, Hazard and Elia.
 
Are we talking top $? If so i'd be happy with any of these players

I'm confident that for the first time in 10 years were are going to at least 'attempt' to address our lack of width, especially if kenny is still in charge.

Sweet, but seriously Julian, the spelling of his surname is all over the place.

It's ERIKSEN. (And he's taylor-made for the no. 10 role mind).

*OH and the winger you're thinking of is Lewis Holtby I take it?
 
Mata would be the ideal player for me. Not the fastest but great feet, great delivery and good in front of goal.

yes, but not as a starter. the only way I see meireles being a regular in the team is if he either learns to tackle or gerrard doesn't have a problem playing in a wide role.

I think Meireles recent performances have put him down as one of the first names on the team sheet. Regardless of who we have brought in. Ultimately I see either him or Gerrard behind the main striker, with Suarez cutting in from the flanks.

I think the summer will mark the end of strikers utilised as wingers, why? because we'll actually BUY wingers.

ah yes...i was thinking about Alexis Sanchez and ended up with Cavani...shows how much i know.

I do think that Kenny seems to have the ability to bring the best out of wingers. I'm very excited regardless of who we bring in in the summer.
