European Super League

I am not sure where this whole thing is going to take me.
I am not confident though that I will be able to divest myself of all things Liverpool.
I have been a fan for fifty years now and it it's not something that I can switch on and off like a tap.
That's why I am amazed when I hear other posters saying that if the super league goes ahead they will support a different Premier League.
Taking an interest in a local team I can sort of understand but switching allegiances is not how it works in my view. That's how Chelsea and Man city gets lots of their supporters. Your team is your team and that's it.
I love LFC, I love Liverpool the city and I love the people who live there.
As much as I hate where football is heading, I don't think after half a century of emotional attachment, I will be able to flippantly walk away.

Support another Premier League team ? WTF? It's Liverpool or nothing for me - mind you I am a legacy fan dinosaur. Well, I say nothing. Probably COLFC or Marine (mainly for the trainspotting porn with @Woland). Do you ever get the feeling these "future fans" will swap allegiances like their undies ? Still, doesn't matter as long as the moolah keeps rolling on in

Yeah but while I agree that UEFA and FIFA are fucking nobs, I still think klopp got it wrong last night. The match going fans have just removed their banners because of this shit and he's ripping into Gary Neville for god knows what reason. Twenty years ago I'd have gladly shoved the rat faced little nobhead into traffic but his point on this is correct. I think klopp read the room badly.

He was squealing that highly last night I thought he'd had a sex change.

It seemed like it was the t-shirts, it was already going to be a shit day for him but those t-shirts were the equivalent of telling him to go home and get his shine box. Matter of time before he gets whacked over his outburst.

That fucking weasel Solskjaer kept his mouth shut and did the right thing. The paedophile looking rat Tuchel opened his mouth but only to suck off his owners, again the right thing. The egotistical Mourinho did the wrong thing, and they whacked him. Klopp couldn't help his own ego and laid into the owners, that spells the end of his time with us, it would be amazing if he survives.

But we haven't been much better than that for much of the last thirty years?
There was always hope (and, in my case, conviction) that "this was our year" and generally we were, at worst, chasing a European place. With the ESL it is win or nothing, not even threat

"rich" coming from Pep:

Guardiola: "It's not sport when there is no relation between effort and success, it's not sport. It's not sport if it doesn't matter if you lose. I've said many times I want the best competition as possible. It's not fair if teams fight at the top and cannot qualify."

I think Klopp got it wrong laying into rat face. He did it obliquely before the match, and that was fine, but went full on post match and, to me, it was OTT. BUT given the position he had been put in by the owners, the T-shirt stunt and then the match result it was understandable.

Rat face, in his comfortable, no pressure, seat should have said something like "I disagree with him, but can understand why he is wound up. I'll call him tomorrow & make peace", instead he decided to react himself, blathering on about how he has 600 employees in a pandemic and saying "I will say what I like"

Also, he admitted to supporting an open market economy and he praised Boris Johnson & Prince Harry .. so he's a twat

Neville was grandstanding and using this opportunity to vent his hatred of us.
Bringing the YNWA anthem into it for fuck sake, then shit stirring about how can Klopp stay as manager.
There’s a lot of self interest going on in this faux outrage.

Well, the management of this new league isn't very encouraging, given that they are allowing a parade of cunts to shit on them for claps.

They fully expected blowback, so what exactly is the PR strategy here? Press release into bunker mode while everyone giving public statements is 100 percent opposed to the idea? If anything so far I think they've weakened their position.

Their strategy with respect to Sky/BT is even worse. It looks like we thought we could just remove our lips from Sky's penis and walk away like nothing would happen. It's obvious the club are going to lose this fight after starting it for no reason at the worst time possible, and going forward our lips will subsequently be replaced with our arsehole in whatever new deal we are forced to agree to.

I see Amazon have released a statement saying they are not involved with the ESL at all, much like Sky did yesterday (I assume BT & others have done the same).

When they say they "have not been involved in any discussions for the proposed Super League", what they are really saying is that they are kicking themselves for not being involved, how they wish they were on the inside, but now they are on the outside they will pretend to be morally opposed to it.

What wrong thing did Mourinho do, apart from being shit at his job?

I imagine he went to see Levy first thing in the morning, and called him a hijo de puta. Levy called up Perez to ask him for a translation, the fax came through, and he went ballistic and fired him. It's the most likely extrapolation from what I briefly observed of the two people in their documentary.

BREAKING: Arsenal have decided to not participate in the European Super League. They are starting their own breakaway league with just themselves. The bookies currently have them as second favourites to win it.

Nah he was right to bring YNWA into it. The owners are happy to market it and spread this brand image of being a family and a special club etc, but they don't actually believe in the message or the lyrics. That was all Neville was pointing out. Rightfully so.

There's a lot of whataboutery going on here that's diluting what's right. Neville wasn't criticising the club. He was criticising the lizards that happen to own it. He said a lot of respectful positive things about the club and Klopp.

At the end of the day, we're all hypocrites to some extent. I'm sitting here typing this on my Samsung that was probably made by some sweatshop kid, likewise the clothes that I'm wearing.

But let's not plunge into tribalism and blindly lash out at the people talking the most sense in the face of the most avaricious and heinous attack on the game we've ever seen. There are plenty of things wrong with football - the world - but Gary Neville is very low down the list.

This could be the perfect opportunity to start righting some wrongs within the game, assuming this doesn't come to pass. UEFA and FIFA might get all self-righteous and use it as an opportunity to actually come up with something fair and inclusive that doesn't erode the integrity of the sport. I won't hold my breath, but it would be a good time. Get rid of VAR while you're at it, too.

HAHAHAHAHA they’ll just continue to be self serving wankers

Oh yeah, defo. But there's been such an outpouring of outrage they could really get some massive credibility and goodwill in the bank if they act the right way.
