Training to commence tomorrow.

Premier League training will resume this week after clubs unanimously agreed to a set of medical protocols to keep players safe amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The decision was taken at a league shareholders’ meeting and allows clubs to undertake limited group-based training from Tuesday afernoon, provided a first round of Covid-19 testing proves negative.

The protocols were put to a vote after weeks of preparation and some dissent from club doctors and players. They are the first stage in the proposed return of the Premier League.

The protocols enable socially distant training and further protocols will need to be devised to enable contact training and, ultimately, matches. It was acknowledged at the meeting that the stages to come will prove more difficult, with much work still to be done.

Players in particular will need to be convinced. While the Bundesliga made a successful return behind closed doors this past weekend, Germany is at a different stage in dealing with the coronavirus crisis. On Sunday Germany had 589 new confirmed cases of the virus. In the UK that figure was 3,534.
“Phase one is social distancing individual training with a coach; that’s no problem, that’s like going to the park,” Watford’s captain, Troy Deeney, told ITV’s Good Morning Britain. “Phase two will be next week: six days’ worth of training, three to six people training together with contact, and then six days after that you’re going into 11 v 11 and you can’t social distance with 11 v 11.

“I’m desperate to play football, it’s my job, I’ve got the best job in the world. But there has to be clear and safe measures for everybody, not just me. I saw Tammy Abraham say his dad has asthma and he lives with him so he has concerns.

“It’s not just players at the bottom who are trying to stay in the league, it’s concerns right across the board. I have had a lot of texts from players who are worried about coming out and speaking. I would say 98% are very much aware that phase one is very good. I would say 65-70% of people are concerned with phase two. I’d say even higher after that.”

The league said in a statement: “This first stage has been agreed in consultation with players, managers, Premier League club doctors, independent experts and the government. Strict medical protocols of the highest standard will ensure everyone returns to training in the safest environment possible.
“The health and wellbeing of all participants is the Premier League’s priority, and the safe return to training is a step-by-step process. Full consultation will now continue with players, managers, clubs, the PFA and LMA as protocols for full-contact training are developed.”

Thoughts and prayers with Troy Deeney at this difficult time...

Theoretically, I wonder at what point they start allowing the fans back in, and to what extent. Say for example the bumdersliga or our league, say germany or us have zero deaths or zero new cases for a couple of weeks or a month, do they allow the stadiums to be filled up again? I wonder what the crossover point will be where they can be allowed back in again.

Only if and when a vaccine is found I reckon

Might not have a vaccine but we may have more effective treatments plus a greater degree of immunity. No way we only having crowds if a vaccine.

I'm putting all my hopes on the virus mutating into something like a broken toenail or an itchy navel

Celtic fans have been turning up outside Parkhead to 'celebrate' being given the title.

It's going to spook the police down in England and city mayors.

Nice one dickheads.

Fucking bellends.

Let's not kid ourselves that there won't be a few dickheads do the same at Anfield when we win it.

It does mean that the games will be at neutral grounds though, but then I expected that to be the case.

This is reason one of “football shouldn’t continue without fans” is complete bullocks. If football was banned until it was safe for fans then 90% of the leagues would fold. 8-14 months of no income whilst forking our millions. It’s not happening.

The second reason is there is so many Saturday and Sunday league football played without fans. It’s still football.

Troy Deeney has refused to return to training. Now saying he has a 5 month old kid who has/had breathing difficulties.

Fair enough, feel sympathy for his situation. But, the world can't stop for 1 person.

Fine. Plenty of people aren't going to work cos they or someone they live with has to be shielded. Those businesses still open without them.

Well, one can't blame a guy, even a reheated caveman like Deeney, for putting family first, but he also has a duty towards his employers. In their position I'd be considering putting players who feel it necessary to take this kind of action on unpaid leave if the situation's going to continue for any length of time.

What about teachers?
I have no issues with teachers shielding or working, esp if they are going to test them & their families twice a week like they will with footballers.

I have loads of issues with all the other points about opening schools, as I have gone in depth with on the other thread, if you wish to address those points feel free.

Ian Woan (Burnley asst. Manager) is one of the six.

Asymptomatic.
Thing is who of those six been in contact with, and will the others be so careful now it looks as if things are returning to some sort of normality

I am guessing it will be late August/earlt September before we restart

Well.. they shouldn't have been in contact with anyone in theory, since it's still meant to be 2m+ distancing training and not contact training.
