Well, guess I was wrong. The Mancs ended up winning the inaugural U-21 Premier League trophy after coming back from 0-2 down to beat the Spurs 3-2, at Old Trafford. Kinda' odd that the playoffs should be one-legged affairs on non-neutral grounds, but anyway, I'm surprised. I didn't see the match but the Mancs aren't that good from what I've seen in the game against us (yeah they beat us 3-0 but still...). Spurs were very impressive when they thrashed us. Oh well.

Oh, and Nick Barmby's son, Jack Barmby, plays for the Mancs' U-18s. I think he'll probably feature in their U-21s next season; looks like a good player - saw him at the NextLions Cup in Singapore and he stood out with his ability and confidence. The Mancs supposedly poached him from Hull when he was 14.

I think Teixeira and McLaughlin are the next 2 closest to making an appearance. Both very good.

Pity about Smith and Pelosi; looks like they're going to need some time to work their way back again after their bad injuries.

I'd like to see Ibe and Sterling on either flank in some Carling Cup games next season. Would be interesting to see how that pans out.

Last year on contract:

42 Péter Gulácsi - 2014

51 Lloyd Jones - 2014
43 Ryan McLaughlin - 2014
45 Stephen Sama - 2014
- Jakub Sokolik - 2013

35 Conor Coady - 2014

- Villyan Bijev - 2014
50 Adam Morgan - 2014
64 Michael Ngoo - 2014
12 Daniel Pacheco - 2014

Last chance saloon for most of these players.

McLaughlin definitely deserves an opportunity in the first team. Coady seems to have real potential as well, and Sama looked solid last preseason, meaningless as it may be.

Sama did look promising in pre season, kinda surprised me since I never really rated him but he's just a very limited defender. Not very intelligent imo.

Coady has the mentality to become a good player but he just doesn't have the ability imo. He lacks the passing range and technique to play in midfield.

McLaughlin can become a star.

Lloyd Jones has recently been offered a new three year contract. Sama and Sokolik look doomed. I don't see the point of hanging on to Gulacsi, he once looked promising but loan spells haven't seen him progress. Bijev has only just come back from a long injury lay-off so I'm sure they'll stick with him. McLaughlin and Coady will figure in the first team squad next season, as, probably, will Morgan, but after a season of working on his overall game via various tactical exercises during matches, this season will really be make or break fr him here. I hope Ngoo comes back after doing well on loan, he's worth monitoring for a while longer.

Bijev just came back from loan to some German side(s) because he wasn't granted a work permit or something similar. He's played a couple of games and scored in his debut; I suppose we'll have a better look at him next season.

Saw this name today in the offal report and only just realised that he was signed last season. Apparently a goal scoring sensation.

Armin Hodzic

Super Talent Armin Hodzic, or the new Dzeko as he is called in Željeznicar will most likely continue his career in England. Liverpool have shown great interest in the 16-year-old and it also appears to have made it clear the striker.

English big club Liverpool FC will most likely buy Željos biggest talent in years and decades. It is about 16-year-old striker Armin Hodzic who has been in an alien form the last two years. Hodzic has been nicknamed the new Dzeko at home, and it says I am part!

Armin has not only impressed in the domestic league for boys under seventeen. Last fall, he stood for four direct hits in three games for the Bosnian U-17 national team. In Bosnia, the youth made an incredible 46 (!) goals in just some 20 matches!

Everything would turn out to go as it should, so should 16-year-old get a contract with Liverpool which extends to 2017.

Read that he has been granted work permit. Also scored for Bosnia U19s against Sweden U19s today.

The #EnglandU20s will be captained in the #u20wc by Conor Coady of #LFC.

LAST time England won an international tournament at Liechtenstein’s U17 European Championships, St Helens’ very own Conor Coady was at the heart of the team.

Now three years later and the Liverpool centre-half is preparing for the biggest tournament in his young career, as he has been selected to represented the country at the U20 World Cup in Turkey.

After submitting a provisional 35-man squad for registration with FIFA, Head Coach Peter Taylor has this week announced his whittled-down list of 21 players who will be travelling to the tournament later this month.

At the centre of the young side will be Conor, who told the Star how he is preparing for the greatest challenge he has faced in his career to date.

The 20-year-old said: “I’m absolutely made-up to be selected in the side; it’s a huge honour to represent your country at this level.

“I’ve always wanted to go to a World Cup and to be doing so at my age is amazing. It was really tough going out of the European Championships last year in the semis, but now we’re all even more determined going into the World Cup.”

Coady, like many of the other players selected for the World Cup squad, was part of the U19 team which went out of the European Championship in the semi-final in Estonia last year.

He said: “Me and the lads on the squad have all come through the England teams together so we all know each other well. There’s a great buzz going into the tournament.

“The past year I’ve loved playing football and I think I have improved on my own game. It’s been great at Liverpool and now I can’t wait to go to the World Cup.”

Conor will travel with the rest of the England U20 team to the St George’s Park training facility before flying out to Turkey on Wednesday, June 12 in preparation for their first game against Iraq on June 23.

Completes a hat-trick: Gerrard (England captain), Henderson (U21 captain), Coady (U20 captain)

Armin Hodzic - young striker from Bosnia - has finally got a permit. Exciting to watch him next season, he's a very promising forward.
