LIVERPOOL boss Kenny Dalglish was the guest of honour at Rainhill High last week.

The Anfield legend officially opened the club’s new Academy Education, which is based at the Warrington Road school.

Headteacher John Pout said: “We are delighted to launch this partnership. It goes without saying the prestige of Liverpool FC makes it a great honour for us to provide this service to the club.

“This coupled to the high quality of the education provided by Rainhill, makes this a very high quality partnership.

“Our students have made the LFC Academy players very welcome, and they have fitted in very well. Even those students who are Evertonians will recognise that this is great coup for the school.”

Phil Roscoe, Head of Education and Welfare at the LFC Academy said: “Over the past 18 months we have been impressed with the high level of teaching and pastoral care provided to our boys at Rainhill.”

Deputy council leader Barrie Grunewald said: “It really is a tribute to the school to be partnered with Liverpool in this way bringing a first class learning centre.”

Looks like the English lads are progressing fine.

Not sure where to put this...

We've signed this schoolboy from over here (N.Ireland) called Ryan McLaughlin, and this is footage from the recent Belfast & District Schools' Cup Final whilst playing for St. Mary's (green and yellow kit).

Ipswich Town midfielder Josh Carson led Northern Ireland’s U19s to a 3-1 victory over Belarus in the second game of the their European Championship qualification mini-group in Belfast last night. The 18-year-old skippered the side and created the first goal.

The Northern Irish youngsters went in front in the 13th minute when Burnley’s Shay McCartan headed Carson’s corner into the net.

Liverpool’s Ryan McLaughlin added a second before Pavel Savitski pulled a goal back for Belarus, but Preston’s Michael McLellan netted the third with the visitors reduce to 10 men late on.

An old news from May 2011

Ryan McLaughlin is considered one of the brightest prospects to come out of Northern Ireland in some time, according to Frank McParland, who will oversee his progress at Liverpool over the next three years.

Liverpool FC Academy Director McParland is full of praise for the 16-year-old defender who will leave home in the summer in a bid to fulfil his dream of becoming a professional footballer.

The St Mary's CBGS pupil showed why Liverpool regard him so highly when he starred for his school in their 4-3 victory over Boys Model in the Maxol Schools Cup final in March.

That match at Ballyskeagh may have been marred by fighting on the terraces, but anyone interested in the football could see that McLaughlin was a player with a touch of class.

He scored two penalties in the game, including a late winner from the spot when the pressure was on.

McLaughlin, who like many gifted young players from the province learnt much playing for Lisburn Youth, recently signed a three-year deal to join Liverpool.

His aim?

“At the end of that contract I want to have done well enough to earn a new one,” says Ryan, a determined young man.

McParland, installed as the Academy Director two years ago by ex-Reds manager Rafael Benitez, says: “We scouted Ryan over the last two years and a lot of clubs were interested in him. In fact I'd say all the top clubs in the Premier League wanted him. We worked very hard to get him.

“We've looked after him and when he comes over in July he’ll be in nice digs which his parents are really pleased with.

“He's a good player and we're very excited by the prospect of him coming to us. He will definitely learn quickly because he's an intelligent young lad.

“He's been playing above his age level for Northern Ireland and when he's been over here at the Academy for training and matches he has done exceptionally well.

Frank, whose Scouse wit is as sharp as his eye in spotting future stars, added that Reds boss Kenny Dalglish and Director of Football Damien Comolli have already watched Ryan and been impressed with what they saw.

McParland stated: “The manager and Damien have both seen him play and they are really impressed by the level he has reached so far. We're really looking forward to seeing him develop because when he's with us full-time and playing and training here every day he'll progress even quicker.

“He's coming over in July after finishing his schoolwork which is important. His parents were keen for him to finish his schooling.

Once he's over here with us we feel he can go through the ranks quickly. We think we have got one of the best young players to come out of Northern Ireland in the last few years.”

Nile Ranger could have had a hat-trick – the Londoner had a penalty saved and hit the post with a header – and he was grateful of the opportunity against a young Liverpool side in the Premier Reserve League fixture.

“You have to get your goals – they don’t do you any harm,” said Ranger.

“I probably could have had more than two, I hit the post as well, it could have easily been a hat-trick.

“They had a young team out there – I don’t think that any of them were over 18 – but they did well.

“Raheem Sterling’s a very good player for them, I liked him.

“For the first 25 minutes we were all on point – we were all at it – but we dropped off for the rest of the first half. In the second half, we came out all guns blazing.”

Slightly over a wk old - 3-1 victory vs Chelsea reserves (Sterling, Morgan, Coady)

Chelsea Reserves v Liverpool Reserves (A) 11/12

Latest win 5 days ago came 3-1 vs Bolton (Sterling, Morgan, Suso)

IT’S been some week for Liverpool’s talented teenager Adam Morgan.

The 17-year-old striker passed his driving test
before putting Bolton Reserves to the sword at the Academy on Tuesday.

Morgan expertly slotted home the second in a 3-1 win and it was his perfectly weighted pass which created the third for Raheem Sterling.

The following day Morgan was named in the England Under-19s squad to face Denmark in front of a 20,000 sell-out crowd at Brighton next Friday night.

He celebrated in style with a trip to Alton Towers.

Liverpool are on the verge of qualifying for the knockout stage of the NextGen Series following this week’s draw between Wolfsburg and Molde. If Molde fail to beat Sporting next Saturday the Reds will be into the last eight regardless of what happens in their final game at Sporting on November 16.

Little banter between Morgan and Sterling on twitter today, calling the other the next SWP/Fowler.

We need to start playing Suso.

This is one thing Kenny did well at the end of last season and has stopped now.

We should still field youngsters. We have a few decent ones. It's time they got their chance.

It's hard to imagine that Sterling would not have scored or had an assist or two if he'd played the last 10 games. At any level.

Do people who watch the Ressies on a regular basis think he is anywhere near the level required to play for the first team consistently ?

He looks amazing at that level HC, but then other players have looked good and not stepped up- Pacheco being a good example. However, I would say that Pacheco always had a problem with decision making- he consistently made bad calls when things opened up. There was always a question mark.

I don't think there's a question mark over Raheem, it is just knowing when is the right time to introduce him. Seeing littluns like Silva and Nasri prospering gives me hope for the likes of Suso and Sterling.

Liverpool Reserves XI vs Blackburn: Belford, Mendy, Sama, Wisdom, Smith, Roberts, Coady, Suso, Sterling, Ngoo, Morgan.

Liverpool subs: Stephens, McGiveron, Roddan, Pelosi, Dunn.

Marc Pelosi has just got his work permit and is involved for the first time.

"Pelosi can play either centre-midfield or centre-back and has been likened to Conor Coady in terms of playing style."

that's the second US player signed in recent months . I gather they are decent players but i'm sure there is huge hope they make it as much for the potential US marketing benefits . They'll be up on giant posters with LeBron if they get a sniff of 1st team football .

Barca told wonderkid to choose Liverpool?

Tuesday, 8th November 2011

The Reds have confirmed the capture of talented 17-year-old American midfielder Marc Pelosi from DeAnza Force Club in California.
The 17-year-old has had the chance to develop in the Catalan’s youth system under Barcelona youth coaches and was advised that a move to Liverpool would be the best alternative.
In an interview with topdrawersoccer.com he said: “It’s a great feeling, I have been told the current Barcelona coach said that ‘if you don’t go to Barcelona, the second best place to develop is at Liverpool.’ It’s a great, top notch organization.
“Right now, I want to make sure that wherever I go I am in the right place where there is a balance between training and playing high-level matches. And I want to ensure I can continue my education.”
There were speculations sometime in August that Liverpool approached the US Soccer Federation about Pelosi after scouts were impressed with his performance for the U-17 national team.
The playmaker also has reportedly attracted the interest of European clubs such as AS Roma and Tottenham Hotspurs.

That coach must be on the pay roll.

We've hardly been shitting out quality players in recent years.

That's the spirit, Buddha!

I watch the reserves and they are excellent, I think they are maybe 2 years off but when they come through it's entirely possible a group of them will come through at the same time.

Liverpool now have five players in the U19 squad - Wisdom, Flanagan, Robinson, Coady and Morgan. More representatives than any other club.
