Youth / Reserve Team Thread... 2010 - 2013

I'd probably fail to settle in the north east too if I played for Liverpool.

Spotted George.

2nd place.

Drew when they needed a win.

Not really fair though considering that they were missing Morgan, Sterling, Smith and Regan.
Suso played with the reserves last night.(Strange decision in retrospect).
Robinson could have played so could Flanagan if they (the management) really wanted it.

Could have been U18 champions.

Didn't watch the game; the official report said that a penalty wasn't given for this at the end:

Ref must've thought that the defender was just fondling his inflatable doll.

Just read that when we played Birmingham 2 weeks ago, we had more players in the match day squad that had come through the acadamy than any other Premiershp side.

Director of Football Damien Comolli today paid tribute to the work being carried out at Liverpool's Academy following the emergence of two more youngsters into the Club's first team plans.

In the week Jay Spearing - another who graduated through the Academy ranks - put pen to paper on a new Liverpool contract, Comolli admitted the progress of Spearing as well as John Flanagan and Jack Robinson has filled him with great optimism for the future.

"The fact that Jay has been given a new contract shows that if you do well then you will get chances to play and get another contract," he said. "It's not that if you come from other clubs then you are more highly regarded. To me it is the same.

"It's fantastic for the identity of the club to have so many local players. Stevie and Carra have been here for a long time and now we have Jay, and also Jack Robinson and John Flanagan.

"Having local players gives the club a strong identity and also keeps the family atmosphere around the place. These players have been here for so long that they make sure the atmosphere is still alive. It's great.

"The day we played Birmingham a couple of weeks back we had more players who had come through our Academy in our squad than any other Premier League side that day. That is a strong sign of the work going on at our Academy.

"It's fantastically rewarding for the Academy staff to see the work they have done over the past couple of years paying off. It also shows if you are good enough then you will play no matter what your age is.

"Jay has had a lot of games of late and hopefully John Flanagan and Jack Robinson can now do the same."

That's Ngoo I take it? He's a fucking giant
Yeah, all of 6ft 4in. That's immense football-wise all right. Wonder if he's completely filled out or if he's still going to grow some more.

He has skills like Crouch too...

I for one am happy that the reserves + the u18's didnt win their leagues. They will be very determined next season.. They now have a very clear idea of what it takes to win and that off days can cost you the title.

Raheem returns to Liverpool

Forward flies home after picking up knock.
By Nicholas Veevers in Novi Sad.

England U17s ace Raheem Sterling has returned to parent club Liverpool today, after picking up an ankle injury in Friday's game with Denmark.

Sterling was substituted just before half time in the match after stretching to control a pass and after being evaluated by the England medical staff in Serbia and consultation with their counterparts at Anfield, it was decided that he wouldn't be fit to feature in Monday's Group A closer with the host nation so would return to his club for further treatment.

He didn't play in the first game with France, as he only arrived to link up with the squad last Sunday but he is now on his way back to Anfield having flown from Belgrade on Sunday morning.

"We'd like to thank Raheem for his contributions, as he's played a major part this season throughout the qualification process," said Head Coach John Peacock.

"It's a shame that it's had to end this way for him, but it will have been a great experience for Raheem and I'm sure he'll wish all of the squad the best in their aim to reach the World Cup and the semi-final of the European Championship."

Peacock will not replace Sterling with anyone ahead of Monday's game.

Aussie Brad Smith scored for England today.

They're through to the semi's.

We should steal Hallam Hope from Everton.

worth noting the great news that England U19s have called up 7 of our lads: Coady, Ngoo, Ince, Robinson, Flanagan, Wisdom and Shelvey. really encouraging to see so many involved.

also, Jack Dunn has been called up for the u17s as a replacement for Sterling, and nice to see that Spearing's been drafted into the 40 man provisional u21 squad for the euros; ok, it's not the most spectacular achievement, but it's his first ever international recognition and well deserved imo. he's really blossomed in the last 4 months and just goes to show how patient you need to be with some youngsters.

England Under-21 Head Coach Stuart Pearce has called up Liverpool midfieder Jay Spearing into his provisional 40-man squad for this summer’s 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Denmark, following Mark Davies' withdrawal.

The Bolton Wanderers man has been ruled out of contention this summer through injury, and with Pearce submitting his long-squad to UEFA on Thursday, the combative Reds youngster has been handed an opportunity with the Three Lions.

Spearing has been in excellent form in the heart of a resurgent Liverpool midfield following the return of Kenny Dalglish. Born in Merseyside, his displays for his boyhood club have earned him a first Under-21s call up.

Although he has not yet appeared for any of the England teams, the 22-year-old has won The FA Youth Cup twice at Anfield and this season has made 18 appearances for the Liverpool first team, impressing enough to earn a contract extension last week.

I've been really impressed with Spearing under Dalglish. Hope he makes it properly.

A 22 year old can play for the Under 21's?
Yep. I think you can even be 23 under certain circumstances and dates etc. You're allowed a certain number of over aged players.

I think you have to be 21 or under on the year qualifying for a tournament begins.

It would be a bit silly if players one by one stopped being eligible as the qualifying goes on. 😀

Aussie Brad Smith scored for England today.
LIVERPOOL youngster Brad Smith is hungry for more after making a big impression on England duty at the Under-17 European Championships in Serbia.

The Australian-born left-back played a major role in helping John Peacock’s side qualify from their group in second palce to set up today’s semi-final with Holland.

Smith scored the opening goal in Monday’s crucial 3-0 win over the hosts which also ensured England will be involved in next month’s FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Mexico.

The 17-year-old Reds defender was only called up for the first time in March when he was picked for the qualifying round in Belgium but has quickly established himself as an integral part of the squad.

“It’s been a really good experience for me, first out in Belgium and now in the finals,†he said.

“And to get the chance to go to the World Cup is even better.

“That is going to be a tremendous experience for us.

“We’re all looking forward to it and obviously playing for our places now.

“I’ve been watching a couple of the Holland games when they’ve been on here, and they look like a decent team.

“We’ll watch a few DVDs and make sure that we’re prepared and ready for the game.â€

Smith admits he enjoyed a slice of luck against Serbia when he scored from an acute angle after a rampaging run down the left.

“It was a cross, but it looked like a shot so I was delighted,†he added.

“It’s always good to score for England and being a full-back, that’s my first, so I was delighted.

“It was a great result for us. We didn’t start well in the tournament, but we managed to push through and we’ve made the semi-final.

“Our first aim was just to win the game on Monday and get to the World Cup, which was what we wanted to do.

“So when the result came in from the other match, that was a bonus for us and now we can’t wait to play Holland.â€

Smith is set to line up alongside Liverpool team-mate Adam Morgan today, while fellow Reds Matty Regan and Raheem Sterling have returned to Anfield after being forced to drop out of the squad due to injury.

“It’s always good to have people from your club along, to help you settle and everything,†the Liverpool youngstr added.

“It’s been easy to settle into the group and I’ve really enjoyed the whole experience.â€

Made our 1st new signing already.

Alex O'Hanlon Signs For Liverpool Football Club

Liverpool Football Club today completed the signing of Irish starlet Alex O'Hanlon. The signature of the 15-year-old left-sided player probably won't excite many fans but it should.

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish has been tracking O'Hanlon ever since he was at the Academy and within days of his appointment as Liverpool's permanent manager, he has overseen a huge coup.

Numerous clubs were desperate to land the youngster, including Spanish giants Real Madrid. They, along with Chelsea, Arsenal and even Everton (as recent as 3 weeks ago), laid on the full works for O'Hanlon and his family but he has turned them all down in favour of Kenny Dalglish's new regime at Anfield.

A source told: "He's a Manchester United fan but he wanted to play for Liverpool. All the major clubs in England wanted him, plus he enjoyed a week with Real Madrid, but he chose Liverpool because he wanted to work under Dalglish and because 'the club felt more right than any of the others'.

"He spent time with Chelsea but on the plane on the way home he said he'd never go there.

"Liverpool showed him and his family the most respect. He's come here because he believes Liverpool are a massive club on the verge of great things."

We understand that Liverpool have invested a tidy sum in the player who was at Melwood this afternoon with his father and representatives to complete the signing of his3-year contract.

The source added: "He's got a long way to go. He's still a young lad but Kenny is absolutely delighted to have secured this transfer. They have spent a lot of money to make it happen."

Arsenal tried to hijack the deal as recently as last week but failed.

I have a mate whose lad plays for St Kevins.
I will ask him about O Hanlon.

Re: Re: Youth / Reserve Team Thread

Bet he's not as good as raheem or sterling

Exciting thing is he's only 15. Robinson and him could make up our left flank in the future. 😛

The pic of the 2 Korean trialists doesn't load for me on .tv, so found these 2.

According to my mate O Hanlon is a stand out player at the moment and likened him to Gareth Bale.
He is very one footed apparently.

Thks count. Given the hype, the supposed high fee and his age, surely under the right guidance, he'll be able to develop successfully?

A glimpse at the atmosphere/environment in which the reserves played in during their Hong Kong trip.

Liverpool Reserves have booked their place in the quarter-finals after comfortably topping Group A at the International Soccer Sevens tournament in Hong Kong.

The young Reds opened with a 1-0 success over the hosts' U18 side before firing three without reply at the expense of Yau Yee League Select.

I know that the article mentions a figure of £1.5m but my mate heard that there were a couple of offers for him of £500k, from I think Spurs and Arsenal. O Hanlon had said though that he had made up his mind to go to Liverpool so I guess a similar fee as that was paid over by us.
My mate said that apparently the host club, in this case St Kevins, gets £90k and if it is reported as a £500k deal the kid gets the whole £500k over the duration of his contract.

Once again the King comes up trumps. I like that we beat Real, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Everton to the lad.

I also hope that he's ace and comes good. How good would it be for Kenny to rub it in Fergies face with the lad being a Utd fan.
