This would be my all time England 11.

Shilton
Cole
Adams
Ferdinand
Neville.G
Robson
Gascoigne
Barnes
Beckham
Gerrard
Shearer

Bench-Seaman, Pearce, Butcher, Linaker, Owen, Sheringham, Waddle.

------------------Owen--------Shearer---------------

----------------------------Seamen-----------------------

I loved Owen as a goal poacher but I think he has to fall behind Lineker in this lineup. Fowler would have been interesting but Shearer and Rooney basically force their way in.

I was going to put Parlour in the CM/DM position but then, despite Ryans skepticism, I think Gerrard deserves his place.

I'd also be interested in seeing Rooney and Shearer up front, Barnes, Gerrard and Beckham lined behind them and Parlour sitting in front of the defense.

Nor do I agree with the "Shilton most overrated" theory............ not even slightly. There's a good reason for that though - he wasn't. One of the best keepers of his time and his performance to get Ipswich to the FA cup final and victory over an Arsenal team with an over rated keeper in Jennings was outstanding.

Seriously, Gerrard? What the fuck.

In my lifetime, Paul Ince was a better midfielder for England than Gerrard. Far better.
Why are you doing England?

I agree with Doc.

By the way, what has Steven Gerrard ever done for England?
Aside from the fact he is shoved out of position all over the place for England, he has scored a bunch of goals. He scored in the germany 5-1 win, he scored in Euro 2004, was our top scorer in WC2006, scored 2 to help us beat Croatia to qualify for the 2010 world cup where he again scored captained the side and was our best player.
He certainly hasnt reached his Liverpool hights but hardly through any fault of his. Second fiddle to Scholes, then lampard then Rooney all the while bagging 15 goals a season and trophies at liverpool.
I cant believe any liverpool fan wouldnt have him in their team to be honest.

I can only really go on what I remember, so that goes back to vague memories of 86 through the present day. As such, although I'm sure the likes of Bryan Robson were great, my memories of him pretty much amount to him lying on the ground injured, which is no good really.

Similarly, I would go for David Seaman over Shilton. I don't buy the theory that Shilton is overrated. I think he was a great player. You don't play international football into your 40s without being a great player. But I have better memories of Seaman.

I would love to put Barnes in there too, but I would be doing so thinking of his Liverpool performances, not his England ones

Seaman
Neville (hate to say it, but noone else!)
Pearce
Ferdinand
Campbell
Gazza
Gerrard
Beckham
Platt
Lineker
Shearer

And now for something completely different

Handanovic
Brecko Milanic Knavs Jokic
Pavlin Koren
Acimovic Zahovic Birsa
Novakovic

Shilton never won the cup with Ipswich, that was Paul Cooper.

Hhmmm, maybe I've misunderstood the original post - very doubtful but there's always that slim possibility.

Is the original post stating that you can only pick players on the form they've shown during international duty or is it to pick the best international 11 in your lifetime?

If it's the latter then I pick Steven Gerrard in the England midfield.

If it's the former then I pick Steven Gerrard in the England midfield.

If it's neither of these.............

I pick Steven Gerrard in the England midfield.

Can't be arsed about starting a new tread but what's your thoughts about a unified Irish team?
You've already got some defectors in Gibson and Shane Duffy.

In the past there have been times when a unified Irish team would of been great. Now both teams aren't the best so I don't think it would make much difference.
So,bar not having Robbie Keane anywhere near the team, what are your amendments? For the record I would sooner not include him but I have managed to rise above that.

I did want to shoehorn Whelan into the starting line up but he was never really a winger and Duff, in his prime was a better option on the wing.
I also thought about finding a place for Tony Galvin, but because of injuries, (or maybe he wasn't in fact that good anyhow) he never came close to fulfilling his potential.
Yea, we seem to have zillions of mediocre players between us but few decent ones.
Combing the two teams wouldn't result in a significantly better one.

---------------------------------------------Maik Taylor
Steve Morrow-------------Gerry Taggart-------- Jonny Evans------------Aaron Hughes
Keith Gillespie-------------Jim Magilton-----------Steve Lomas-----------Michael Hughes
-------------------------------David Healy-----------Kyle Lafferty

Obviously, I'm only including the players I've seen (I think Best might squeeze out Gillespie whilst Branchflower and Jennings might also be worth consideration).

I think Lafferty is better than Dowie (a lot better in fact, but Ian is a better human being and a lot more professional). There is also an argument for including Lennon, but I'm not going to make it.
