If I were City, I would never sell Adam Johnson. But it doesn't mean they won't. Stranger things have happened before. They got too many expensive attacking players with big egos, I don't get the feeling that they really appreciate how good Johnson is or have any plans to build around him. If we offered him consistent playing time, a manager who believes in his talent enough to adjust the team's tactics to his strengths and a coherent team strategy, where a player doesn't feel like an interchangeable cog in the machine, he might be tempted. And if the player wants to leave, City might just sell rather than risk creating more problems within the squad already fraught with problems and unhappy players.

Of course they know that Johnson is a superbly talented player, however I don't think they view him necessarily as a key player or an "image" signing like Robinho or Tevez. They would not go through the same pains to hold on to him. If Dzeko and Tevez occupy first 2 attacking slots, as they probably will, then the remaining one on the right will feature a huge backlog of Silva, Milner and Balotelli, who are all ahead of Johnson in terms of status and the money that was spent on them.

They probably don't view us as rivals at this moment, so my hope is that we might just get lucky with Johnson the way someone else got lucky with Robben and Sneijder not long ago. Ultra-rich clubs are not always smart about retaining and nurturing their talented players, they just don't have the patience. That's their weakness and clubs that don't have an unlimited supply of money should use it against them.

I'd take Johnson ahead of most of the players being shouted about, including Young. They won't sell though.

He looks like a cock and Mancini actually alluded to it a while back suggesting that he bought into the hype surrounding him. But yeah, good player... one that we're extremely unlikely to get though.

I wouldn't mind both Young and Johnson.

Good post by rurikbird, now can Comolli put in a bid?

Good post Rurik perhaps he's not that far fetched a bet after all.

I'd defo take him. Still prefer Young out of the two though as I reckon him to be slightly more of a goal-threat of the two and boy do we need those.

Villa have apparently made a bid for Seb Larsson(who I think is way underrated and a very good player btw). Could this mean they are losing one of their current wingers?

From Skysposrts:
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6673059,00.html

Blackburn and Aston Villa have both lodged bids for Sebastian Larsson, skysports.com understands.

And West Ham United are also understood to have made an enquiry, as the race to land the Swedish international intensifies.

Former Arsenal star Larsson is in huge demand with clubs from England and Spain battling for his signature.

Atletico Madrid and Valencia have both failed to convince Larsson to agree terms on a move to La Liga, whilst Newcastle could not finalise personal terms after they had a bid accepted by Birmingham.

Now both Blackburn and Villa have firmed up their initial interest by making bids - although they are believed to be less than the Newcastle offer that was accepted.

Birmingham are now considering their options, as they know Larsson will be leaving the club - whether it be this month or in the summer.

Steve Bruce's Sunderland also remain keen, and having sold Darren Bent for a club-record fee they could now make a move for the Swedish ace.

Arsenal are the latest top-four club to check on Ashley Young. The Gunners’ chief scout Steve Rowley was among those who watched the England forward, 25, during the loss to Wolves.

Rival bosses Sir Alex Ferguson and Kenny Dalglish were in attendance at the Reebok Stadium recently as Villa were defeated by Bolton and now Arsenal are increasing their interest. Young has only 12 months left on his contract.

Larsson is apparently available for £500k. I really wouldn't mind him at that price.

I don't know, he'd just be another average player clogging up the squad.

No not anymore! Your quote is from January when things were a bit more desperate.

Why would you need to send a scout to watch Ashley Young? He's been in the Premier League for 4 years, and is on TV twice a week.

He's hardly flying under the fucking radar.

I often think that about a lot of players you know, these scouts get away with murder. They should be unearthing gems left, right and centre from the park leagues if you ask me.

I do agree with Rurik's post though, Johnson would be great.

ASTON VILLA have told Ashley Young he will be sold in the summer – with Manchester United red-hot favourites to sign the England forward.

Villa have decided they will not allow Young to go into the final year of his exisiting deal and will cash in during the close season, with a switch to Old Trafford almost certain to go ahead.

Rather than let him leave as a free agent in 2012 Villa hope they can still bank a fee of up to £12million for a player who is emerging as an England regular.

The Midlands club are also contemplating the nightmare threat of relegation, with few – if any – of their stars having pay-cut clauses in their contracts.

Villa are aware of concrete interest in Young from United and Liverpool, although it is believed the 25-year-old wants to link up with Sir Alex Ferguson.

Tottenham were close to signing Young last year but their interest has now cooled
thanks to the progress of Gareth Bale as a world-class player as well as the success of Rafa Van der Vaart’s move to White Hart Lane.

Despite Villa’s miserable season, Young has broken through as a key member of Fabio Capello’s England squad and Ferguson sees him as the perfect eventual replacement for Ryan Giggs.

SIR ALEX FERGUSON has left no stone unturned in his pursuit of Ashley Young - including the use of school-run spies.

The Manchester United boss found out that one of his scouts has a child at the same primary school as an Aston Villa player.

So Fergie asked his colleague to enquire about the off-field life of England star Young (left) as well as other members of the Villa squad.

ASHLEY YOUNG will turn down a staggering £80,000 a week at Aston Villa to fulfil his dream move to Manchester United.

The Villa winger is determined to push through the move in the summer after being promised the chance to succeed Ryan Giggs down the left.

It will crush Liverpool's hopes of signing the winger after he made it clear Old Trafford is his preferred destination.

Young has refused to sign a new deal and Villa owner Randy Lerner is becoming agitated amid fears that he is running down his contract before quitting.

Villa are demanding £25million for Young, but Manchester United are thought to have valued the England forward at £15m.

If the price-tag proves a sticking point, Manchester City may step in to sign him ahead of their predicted summer clear-out of players.

Either way I hope it comes true. He's a talented footballer but he blows hot and cold. We know ManUre are going to buy talent, so I'd just as soon they bought inconsistent talent.
