If I were City, I would never sell Adam Johnson. But it doesn't mean they won't. Stranger things have happened before. They got too many expensive attacking players with big egos, I don't get the feeling that they really appreciate how good Johnson is or have any plans to build around him. If we offered him consistent playing time, a manager who believes in his talent enough to adjust the team's tactics to his strengths and a coherent team strategy, where a player doesn't feel like an interchangeable cog in the machine, he might be tempted. And if the player wants to leave, City might just sell rather than risk creating more problems within the squad already fraught with problems and unhappy players.
Of course they know that Johnson is a superbly talented player, however I don't think they view him necessarily as a key player or an "image" signing like Robinho or Tevez. They would not go through the same pains to hold on to him. If Dzeko and Tevez occupy first 2 attacking slots, as they probably will, then the remaining one on the right will feature a huge backlog of Silva, Milner and Balotelli, who are all ahead of Johnson in terms of status and the money that was spent on them.
They probably don't view us as rivals at this moment, so my hope is that we might just get lucky with Johnson the way someone else got lucky with Robben and Sneijder not long ago. Ultra-rich clubs are not always smart about retaining and nurturing their talented players, they just don't have the patience. That's their weakness and clubs that don't have an unlimited supply of money should use it against them.
