Ok, £15m but that's my final offer!

I like how we seem to have multiple targets at once, even though I am sure we are in the market for only one winger (at least 10+ million one). That's great for leverage when negotiating with the selling club - you don't lower your valuation of Suarez? No problem, we'll get Young instead. Or vice versa (although I hope it's the former). Nobody except Comolli, Kenny and the owners knows which one is the real target and which one is the decoy. If you put all eggs in one basket, you can easily be held hostage by the seller.

Suarez is a striker, and Young's a winger. I would think we're genuinely interested in both.

Though whether we can afford both is another matter...

the yanks should see it as an excerise in safe guarding their investment i.e. the new recruites will help stave off a relegation battle...

I actually think we can. I think FSG would be willing to splash the cash if they really want to.

I suppose it depends on what Kenny sees as the predominant team formation going forward as to whether Young would be a success or not.
If he were to play his former favoured formation of 4-1-4-1 then I can see a place for Young in the line up, but not Suarez.
A continuation of the in vogue 4-2-3-1 would suit Suarez but not Young, while I guess the good old fashioned 4-4-2 would potentially suit them both.

I think in the modern game it's rare that a player is bought with a specific formation in mind. Unless you are a team like Barcelona, where the "system" is more important than any individual. Usually clubs buy the best players they can get and coaches are expected to adjust their tactics and formations depending on which players they have at their disposal. So in that sense Suarez and Young are interchangeable. My prediction is that if we do, hopefully, get one of them, we will probably cool the interest in the other.

If we get Suarez, we might still get a cheaper winger though, like N'Zogbia.

Even though he hasn't quite developed at the rate he first started when at Villa, lets make no mistake about it, Ashley Young would increase the potency of our attack a substantial amount. Anything upto £15m is definately worth it for a fairly young 'n pacey (enough) winger, with quality on the ball, ability to operate on either side, good delivery, a mean set-piece and the wee bonus of being English.

Doc, doesn't Young only have 18 months left and has refused to even discuss an extension until the summer?

There's every chance Young will go for 15M.
agreed. that's what he's worth at most.

Press conference on SKY, Houllier just said that Young & Downing will DEFINITELY not be leaving in this transfer window and there have been no bids.
Yeah. Im not dissappointed to be honest.
I dont think either are right for us.
I'd love Adam Johnson.......and a striker......a CB......a quality DM........a LB..........meh thats all.

We're surely going to be in for N'Zogbia at around 8/9m? He'd be an excellent buy for us at that level.

Doesn't he have 18 months left on his contract aswell? And Wigan accepted 9 mill this summer.

Get Nzogbia for £9M who is just as good if not better. Use another £4M for Taiwo and our left side is sorted.

I'd love Young in front of Kelly.

I always thought Young was a left winger....shows how much i know.

He has played there for Villa but I hate seeing right footers on the left wing.

Sorry; but why would City sell Adam Johnson to us?
Because we're in no way a rival to them?

Ha yeah that's true.

But Johnson is a good player, and it's not like he has been frozen out like SWP or Bridge. I'm coming more from the angle that Johnson is potentially world class and it would be strange for City to sell him.
