Young interest grows

Aston Villa have fielded a host of enquires for Ashley Young in the last week, skysports.com understands.

The England winger has already told Villa that he will not even talk about a new deal until the summer, at which point he will have 12 months left on his deal.

It is understood that Kenny Dalglish's Liverpool kicked off the interest last week then they reaffirmed their interest in the winger, when they also enquired about his team-mate Stewart Downing.

However, Liverpool are not the only club hoping that Villa would be ready to sell Young this month.

Almost all of the top-five are understood to be keen, with only Manchester City not showing an interest in landing the former Watford man.

Skysports.com understands that Liverpool's enquiry was followed up by two notes of interest from rival clubs - but it remains to be seen if he will leave this month.

Villa have lodged a bid of £18million for Sunderland's Darren Bent, whilst they are also keen on Wigan duo Hugo Rodallega and Maynor Figueroa, Blackpool's Charlie Adam, and Blackburn's Chris Samba - but it remains to be seen whether any incomings would have to be offset by sales.

I'd be amazed if young and or downing didn't leave this jan.

Although for lerner I suppose spending £20m on a player might be worth it if it ensures prem survival and all the dollar that comes with it.

definately would like to see young at anfield. he's a little headless but at least he hugs the wing and knows how to cross.

I'd love Young in front of Kelly.

I always thought Young was a left winger....shows how much i know.

A right-footed left winger. But very much a left-winger.

if he joins and johnson continues at left back, we'll have two right footers on the left flanks. yay!

We could well have Young in front of Warnock, which would be weird - given that Houllier had the chance to play them together at Villa and chose not to.

Reina

Kelly - Carra - Agger - Warnock

Magic - Gerrard - Ming - Young

Suarez - Torres

We need better backup in CD and CM, but that is already looking like a much better team. On paper and IF the transfers happen, obviously.

Don't rate the lad

I think young is fantastic for a team that plays on the counter attack but against teams that defend in numbers he is no where near as effective.

I think he's better than we have - can't deny that. He does possess some talent too. Just doesn't seem to have a final ball and is very in and out of games. Maybe I'm being harsh on him.

I think he has suffered a bit at Villa because they don't really have a good goalscorer who could feed off him(it's a bit ironic if they sell him now they are finally getting one). I feel he might flourish with Torres, Gerrard and hopefully Suarez.

He's got pace and can beat a defender, scores goals and creates them. Would be perfect for us.

Villa apperantly want 18 mill for him, I can see that being the stumbling block. Thats probably why we are looking at N'Zogbia aswell.

He has an excellent final ball! In fact, I remember seeing an analysis on the telly as to how he was the most accurate crosser of the ball in the PL.

What he really doesn't have is an abundance of skill on the ball or the ability to beat players consistently.

20M for Young isn't really value for money. I'd look elsewhere at that kind of price.

Plus, like Sunny, I'm not overly convinced by Young.

I'm not overly excited by him either. He'd be a massive improvement on what we have - he'd give us balance, width, and a constant supply of crosses into the box. But I want my winger to give an extra dimension to the side i.e. consistenly run at defenders with pace. I don't think Young does that. I'd have him here for about 10 million in a shot. But he's likely to cost twice as much and we could do much better at that price.

Yes. If we buy Young, we should also bring Martin O'Neill or another coach who prefers physical, high-energy, counter-attacking play. But if we want to build a team that will dominate games, keep possession and pass-and-move teams to death, Young would be frustrating rather than effective.

Young would be massive signing.

Exactly the type of player we need.

If we are going to spend that kind of money on a British winger, I would much rather make a cheeky bid for Adam Johnson, who is under-appreciated at City. He is a world class winger in the making, I have no doubt about that.

Can you imagine a team with Gareth Bale on the left and Adam Johnson on the right? Fullbacks around the world would tremble with fear thinking about it...

I've for some time felt he needs to move to a bigger club to take the next step in his development. But yep, £20m would be too much. Something between £10-14m and it would be a good buy imo.

I wouldn't mind us splashing the cash for Young to be honest. If we don't he'll end up at United, Chelsea or Arsenal and we'll be kicking ourselves when he torments us in the near future.

Apart from beeing lightning quick and extremely skillful he's also got some of the traits of a leader. He's certainly not hiding himself from what I've seen and is one younger players can look up too. I understand the rumoured prize-tag and for once I don't think it's overly inflated because he's British.
