yossi or garcia?

One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet: Garcia was one of the best headers of a ball at the club - pretty amazing for someone no bigger than an elf.

I still prefer Yossi though.

I don't think there's much of a comparison to be made really, I think most valid points have been made anyway.

Yossi has shown consistency across the calendar year, but lets be fair, there was a lengthy spell when he was utter gash and made little difference from the bench, it's only grabbing a couple of important moments towards the end of last season that's elevated him and seen him given the chance to seize the opportunity, and let's face it, he has. But he's in his peak years, as Garcia was when he was here and at his best.

It's unfair to compare an aging, injury prone Garcia who couldn't get in the Atletico side, because it was exactly those issues that prevented him doing well again in Spain.

I remember being at the Stoke game last year and there were groans all round when Yossi appeared from the bench, so it's not all been a bed of roses, people have short memories.

Garcia was a maverick, and a fucking marvelous one at that. Lazy? He was a slight lad who got kicked everywhere and took it for the cause. He scored against Chelsea (in two BIG cup games too), Everton, Arsenal, Juventus, Leverkusen and Deportivo among others and was pretty much the saviour of the Champions League winning season with his goals, if he was lazy (which he wasn't) I couldn't have give a fuck, because his ability to conjure moments as remarkable as his turn and hit against Spurs, or his cracking volley against Juve were priceless and the sort of thing well beyond Benayoun (with all due respect).

Both players at their peak are capable of around 12 goals a season, one is a bit more consistent in terms of being more reliable to do what you ask with no fuss, the other was capable of turning a game on it's head with a moment of sheer inspiration. A priceless asset if you ask me.
Great post Mark. I dont agree with all of it by any stretch, but youre probably right with some of it.
Certainly its preferable to 'you have a two week memory' and 'if you had any credibility', but then i guess you get what you expect from posters generally

Ha!

C'mon Oncy, it's a bit rich if you're gonna take the 'hard done by' approach given some of the abuse you deal out on here.

Besides, if you agree that Marks post was a "great one", does that mean you agree with what he's saying? Cos that would effectively be a contradiction from your whole point.

You mightn't have liked Garcia Andy, but he was fucking great for us when it really counted.

I don't want to sound harsh on Yossi, I think he's had a great year and has proven a good buy, especially for the price, but it's taken time and indulgence and it hasn't always been great.

I just think some of the things Garcia did were priceless and it's been sorely missed at times when trying to break the deadlock against some teams. Thankfully though we look like we've got that issue well out of our system of late.

You are being harsh on Yossi. He was inconsistent in his first year sure, but let's not pretend he was awful or has any need to be thankful for some kind of incredible patience on our part. He came in as a squad player, grabbed 10 goals and a few assists and put in some good performances. He didn't set the world on fire, no, but he had a decent first season at a new club and delivered what a 5M squaddie was expected to deliver.

I remember he had an electric pre-season last year, so I was a little bit surprised by how poor he was for the first part of the season. I was even more surprised however to see how much shit he was getting off the fans. But then, he turned it all around and since then he's been very good and has genuinely pushed for a first team place.

That's pretty much what I said Keni. You've just said yourself you were surprised at how 'poor' he was, all I was saying is that he was poor for a spell and inconsistent.
I havnt said he wasnt. The discussion is who is better. The answer is Yossi. By miles. Who hasnt played as many big games yet as Luis did but has already proved his worth to a degree in those games he has played in and is great REGARDLESS of the occassion.
Im thankful that we had Luis and that he did the things that he did that maybe many others couldnt have, but that doesnt mean i see him comparable with a player who does some of those things and MILES more besides.
